Thanks Kido.

That's why I just bought the other ones anyway. Didn't know which was appropriate and didn't want to delay shipping. I doubted I was going to be going above 1bar anyway.

Are these a straight swap or do you need to get a tune to run them safely?

From what I have read and who I have spoken to (both locally and internationally - forums and service garages):

This is a straight up replacement turbo: http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/kinug ... oll-1.aspx
And this is an upgrade turbo: http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/kinug ... croll.aspx

Neither of which NEED a tune or other supporting modifications, however, to take full advantage of the 20T requires a tune at the very minimum with new fuel pump and possibly injectors if pushing for very high figures.

As my original post indicated, I am NOT looking for a bajillion HP, just a slight upgrade so I plan on replacing just the fuel pump and getting a proper tune. Obviously I will keep the thread updated to how this unfolds :D

UPDATE:
Item has shipped today (1 day behind) as I requested another actuator spring just to be safe. Now I have 0.8, 1.0, 1.2 & 1.5 Bar actuator springs. Will be here early next week :D

1 bar wastegate spring will need a tune before driving or the stock boost control system will hit 22psi or so. Boost cut is 16psi stock.

Run WG pressure by running straight hoe from turbo to wastegate, loop the stock T piece hoses onto each other until its tuned.

Thanks KiDo. Is there a more technical answer to boost and tuning that you could give me? The reason why I ordered this turbo was on all the information I have at hand. I was willing to take a chance on what people have told me so far that this turbo does indeed just bolt up (albeit, with a couple of lines that need to be played around with). I have ZERO knowledge of what the stock VF38 on the BL model produces in the way of boost and how the ECU controls this.

I have heard of the 5EAT (which I have) sometimes over-boosting even with the stock system, so I fully appreciate the importance of tuning it correctly with any supporting modifications I need.

You're not in Brisbane are you? :D

I planned on getting installation done at Subi Evolution in Brisbane.

Stock WG pressure is around 8psi. There is a T piece just near your wastegate which feeds a solenoid near the alternator which then goes to the turbo inlet pipe and its purpose is to use the vacuum in front of the turbo to suck air away from the wastegate. So to run stock boost of 14.5psi, the turbo needs to generate 14.5psi with 6.5psi being sucked away by the turbo inlet before the wastegate sees its opening pressure. The ECU controls how much the boost solenoid bleeds air away so 0% power means wastegate pressure, as no air being sucked away. 90% for example would have the turbo run nearly as much as it can generate... although there is a 'Target' boost table which if you for some reason hit 20psi, would quickly drop the solenoid power to reduce boost. So since target boost is 14.5 and the ECU is roughly expecting that much boost, you could loop the hoses onto themselves(label hoses for what they came off!) and then run wastegate pressure... problem solved and no CEL's for boost solenoid disconnected or lean outs caused by leaving the vacuum hoses unplugged :)

Yes, the turbo is 'bolt on' in that it physically fits :)

Ok, sorry about the delay! Had to go overseas on business so have not had time to do anything!

Good news is though that the turbo is being installed tomorrow! So I will have plenty of pics and info to tell you by tomorrow afternoon! :D

Everyone seems so damn keen (which is GREAT). I've had the turbo installed with a few problems which people in the same situation will be very interested to hear about (Obviously). I have taken many pictures of the install!

However I do not have the time at the moment to write up the process (BUT I WILL!). Pretty sure I can give a write up that ensures that you will not have any surprises with this turbo.

Timeline from now:

1. Saturday finishing off the install of the TMIC and associated new plumbing.

2. Getting a tune by KiDo on Sunday.

Will promise to do a big write up about the installation process which (fortunately I had a VERY good mechanic) took a bit of thinking out-side-the-box (not expensive) to get it done.

:D
