Brake Pads

Postby PtPixel » Thu Jul 10, 2014 10:05 am

I live in NZ where we don't get much in the way of high quality auto parts or any companies that sell them.
I'll need to get some new pads soon - I have standard LGT brakes, not Brembos - and from the recommendations around the place it looks like the best are:
  • Hawk HPS (from US - about $400NZD to have front and rear shipped)
  • EBC Greendstuff (Can maybe expect about $250AUD for front+rear?)
  • Ferodo DS2500 (Judging by ebay maybe around $400AUD front+rear)

I've had a hunt on ebay and a few vendors on here but don't really know where to look for either EBC pads or Ferodo in Aus - most sellers are in US or UK. Who are the preferred vendors for brake pads? Where can I start looking?

Cheers

Got a revised quote from Infamous Performance in the US, looks like the Hawk HPS front + rear pads will be about $240NZD shipped. Will probably jump on those.

What kind of driving do you do in your car?

Im running DBA T2's with Intima SS (0-400) pads all round. Got to be one of the best street upgrades I have done on my car. Just pulls up a lot better than it ever did. Im quite impressed. That said, I only drive normal on the street with the very occasional spirited drive. Dust level is very low.

If you are looking to track your car on occasions, from what I have been told the Intima SR pads (50-750deg) will handle that sort of punishment without fuss.

Im not a brake pad rep, but Ive had a few sets of pads in my car and these have been very good. previous pads I had previously were the Stoptech Performance pads. Braking was good, but they were dusty as hell. I rate the Intima's higher.

Mainly driving around town as a DD but also spirited driving on the weekends etc. Not planning on tracking it.
I'm planning on keeping the stock rotors - from what I can gather the stocks are pretty decent.

Haven't heard of Intima before, they look reasonably well priced. I can only find performance-wise selling them from a quick search, do you know where else I could look? Performance-wise specify they have liberty rears but don't mention fronts. We have the same calipers as 08+ WRX don't we?

Hey ptpixel,
I have had both Hawk HPS and Ferodo DS, both are very dusty. Your wheels will be covered in black. If that bothers you at all. About the same performance for both, maybe Ferodo a bit better stopping.
I have purchased from infamous before. They are good.

Cheers for the info. Are the HPS's really quite dusty? I'd heard they weren't too bad. Don't think I'm too phased by brake dust though, I clean my car often enough.
Might give the HPS's a go first as they're cheapest, will remember Ferodo for the next set of pads.
