I heard from a little duck (a very short angry and hairy one on the sunny coast) that someone found the part number for the GRB 207 short block.... 8) 8)

I guess that's evidence of the value of a closed deck block, or the thicker walled JDM 207.

Well, from what I can tell...yes...Mick is doing about 90% of what he can do to absolutely beat the shit out of his (when's the NOS coming Mick!?) and it's still going strong. And there are a couple of guys in the US similarly beating the living shit out them and they too are still going strong.
Obviously there's going to be a breaking point, but it seems to be that there is no stronger factory block and it takes A LOT of monies to come close when you open and put in aftermarket parts

But $2,200 is about the same as V7 EJ207 and current EJ255/7 blocks new locally... For that money, I'd be dropping pennies on the GRB 207...like I just did

Well the Wife has spoken........ NO second hand blocks to be going back in.

So it looks like i will order the brand new case halves from Jessie or Import Monster and get some pistons made up to what i want and put my Tomei Rods and 2.5L heat treated and Nitrided crank in with some new bearings and gaskets and use my 625 Arp head studs.... and maybe some other stuff..... Will see.

Im hoping PHAT can come back with a better price as he is very local for me.....

And it seems like the cause is leaning towards SHIT quality sleeves and/or installation . There is theories of massive detonation , but i heard and felt nothing and tune has been checked. So maybe fuel pump/filter failure?? Injectors where cleaned and flow tested when they were out.

Your pics of the piston crowns on page 43 indicate detonation. Who's proposed the detonation theory?

Mechanic said there is some little marks but thinks for it to BLOW UP like it has it would have been rattling like a diesel and would have heard and felt it pull timing etc and then boom.

So he thinks its more of a shit sleeve and shit install of the sleeves. Also the material that they used to semi close deck the block was wrong as it looked like it had white moss around it. So it was reacting with something.

The injectors where bathed and flow tested before re install. So all good there. Maybe a fuel pump or filter issue. Asked him to check them.

The thing is, Mick is very aware of the state of his tune, and the coherence of his build.
He's got the knowledge and experience to push toward the upper limits with some confidence.

Check the sleeve deck crack and how the sleeve has dropped, the deck has been in piston travel, hence why it is not melted or chipped and is likely what helped push into the water gallery. Always better to evaluate when the piston is out of the bore
