Gen 4 washers not working *solved*

So I discovered today that my washers weren't working so when I got home I checked the washer bottle and it was empty. I thought I'd fill it up and it would be done except even when filled they wouldn't work. When you pull on the stick to turn them on you can't even hear them whining to try and work, I'm wondering if it is the washer motor.
If anyone else has had this issue please share your experience and any help would be appreciated, cheers

Edit: so I just discovered that you turn the washers on by pressing the button on the end of the stalk not pull it forward, stupidest thing I've done so far

I actually blew up the dealership I bought my car off about the wipers not working in my 3.0rb and scored $500 back for the hassle only for a mate to point the button out to me

the stick does say to pull for sprayers though
