I am thinking of swapping them with 235/35/19’s, so they are a better match to the original tyre circumference.

225/40? Who recommended that size? Most people go 225/35-19 or at the most 235/35-19.

AMG Australia.. Initially I asked for 225/35/19.. and got this response..

“1st 225/35R19 are not properly load rated, I would run 235/35R19 if it’s not lowered to much
Yokohama V103 = $400ea (in stock)”

So I went with the 235/35/19.. Then he said he had a set of 225/40/19 in stock, which are supposedly the rated tyre for that wheel.. At the time I didn’t have the time to check anything, so I just went along with it..

Maybe it wont be so bad.. It will raise the ground clearance of car a bit, but tyres will still fill the guards nicely and give it that super low look.. If my calcs are correct, I will lose about 8kW of power at the wheels & a fair bit of torque thou..

I got the tyres at an absolute barging price.. but yeah I would have to agree with you there.. AMG usually only specialise in rims thou, they only offered tyres when I made some enquiries (and offered them $200 a corner cheaper, they must be making enough profit on the rims).. Just spoke to my Dad back home and he tells me that the tyre wall on the new tyres is about an inch smaller than tyre wall on STi rims.. So have got him to measure the outside diameters and he will also let me know what tyres they have actually put on.. Maybe they did put the 35’s on after all…

BTW.. Stick on bonet is actually a ruler.. My Dad was going to take the pic with the ruler next to the rims lol.. Maybe would have been a good idea, then I wouldn’t need him to go measure them..

There is NO WAY I would put a 235/35 tyre on a rim that is only 7.5 inches wide. I have seen a tyre deflate mid corner due to the bead being unseated ... and it was not pretty.

You "could" drive around for years without problem, but are you willing to take the risk?

225/35 or 225/40 would be borderline. Certainly not optimal, but you could do it and many people would be driving on setups far worse. Just means handling is compromised.

Get someone to check your tyre placard. Mine has a load rating of 89, but I reckon they may have changed the load rating on the MY08 TbSTi to allow fitment of the 225/40R18 RE050As.

Never hurts to be sure! They might have sent you x3 19's and x1 18.

Aren’t stock tyres 225/40/18 on 7” wide rims?.. yeah I am not really keen to lose/deflate a tyre while cruising around out in the hinterland.. I remember some conversion floating around somewhere…. rim width in inches X 25.4 / 0.8 or 0.85 or 0.9 = recommended tyre width in mm..

Michael, Already tried to fit tyre.. Car is just too low.. Also was told that offset is not always measured from the same point.. Similar to having two tyres both 225’s but having different widths.. There is no true international standard that everyone actually adheres to, its more of a guide in most cases..
