Yeh i had a good read.... Just not the 60 pages or what ever it was.

I keep getting told that these motors ARENT reliable and need excessive money spent on them.

But your saying that close decking isnt necessary on a 207.???

Or am i adding extra security that may be over the top but work in my favour for what i want to do with my car.!!

Dunno i may be crazy.!!

High boost 255 & 257 do split cylinders... 207s don't.
Closed deck reinforces weak cylinders.

Just re read Micks post I linked from iirc Rexnet.
Some good options for you right there.
Eg new short w/ conservative tune, rss block with forgies for more boost, or go nuts...

I think when it comes to sleeving, It has a lot to do with installation...I've heard they need to go in cold.

The version 7,8 and 9 (and revision a version 10) ej207's had 9.7mm cylinder walls compared to the 7mm of the ej05,255 and 257.

Best is obviously 13mm walls of the version 10 revision b ej207

But remember any machining of the bore to fit larger pistons will obviously defeat the purpose of the thicker walls

If you want to use a stock size 93mm piston in a 207 but with 2.5 crank (custom pistons obviously so your pistons don't stick out of the block with the longer stroke), then you will only end up with a 2.14 litre motor

So when you consider trying to get 2.4 litre out of an ej207 block them you would need to sleeve and close deck

Or CD and destroke a 2.5 with long rods, 2l crank and custom pistons: 8k +++ rpm limit ;)
But for what you need... Go the stock short or rss option :)

What im thinking is this

EJ207 version 10 block.

My 2.5 heat treated & nitrided crank

My Tomei Rods

New custom stroker pistons in a 95mm

Close deck the block

So would make probably a 2.2-2.3 motor with HEAPS of wall thickness AND close decked.

This sounds like the best compromise between capacity and strength.

Am i talking out my ass here??

Really looking for the strongest possible combination... Within reason.!!

Outfront 2.5 cd case halves are US$1800 plus delivery...
That or similar might be a better option as your internals will be compatible.

As part of your previous build, did you make any fueling mods? Parallel lines, FPR, fuel pump, injectors etc...

There is some history with regards to cylinder 3 failure and Subarus and the most likely cause.

Mmmhh actually i do remember reading about 1 cylinder that gets less fuel due to the design of the rails etc.

I also remember thinking that there was a fix for it, perrin or someone did a rework on the way it distributed the fuel at the motor.

I think you might be onto something

Thank Benny

Its what i thought. Sleeving CAN be better, but also can be shit when compared to close decking.

This is why my builder said sleeving...... I just did the dumb thing and bought an unknown sleeved block!!

Will see whats happend when it comes out and apart.!
