3.6R Engine Flush/decarbonize needed?

Hi, I have clocked up 90k on a 2010 outback 3.6R, serviced regularly, owned since new.

Last service, the dealership wanted to do a flush of the engine with a cleaner to remove carbon buildup. There were no signs of any issues, it was suggested as a precautionary measure.

I have regularly used the fuel additive supplied after each service to keep the engine clean. I generally only use regular 91ron fuel.


Is this flush necessary on the 3.6R? Is there anything I should look for?

Do they/you use upper cylinder cleaner (#SA459) in it?

You might aswell put E10 in it, that's usually cheaper than 'regular' petrol too.

I just had my car serviced last week, i thought do the upper cleaner as a precaution anyway, couldnt hurt. I havent done it since i bought the car. I hope it helps. Mines a 3.0 motor but same thing.

When you say flush do you mean a oil flush or upper engine clean?

Upper engine cleaner is worth it, oil flush I wouldn't bother with.
