Intermittent clunk

My clunk started regularly appearing around a month or 2 ago. I tried the obvious strut top tightening but mine were already tighter than I could get them. By yesterday my clunking was so bad I was genuinely worried a wheel was going to come off!
So I dropped in to my mechanic on the way to work to book it in and was informed theyd had some cancelations and could look at it that day... that never happens at this place!!
They went over every nut and bolt to check tension and found that the sway bar end link was almost completely undone. This was fixed and as a result the clunk is gone
My mechanic said that these can often come loose on some models, so it might be worth checking out all of you fellow clunk sufferers.

Two weeks ago I bought my wife a 11/2012 Gen 5 Sports Premium, with 44k on the clock. We both liked the visual differences and the extras the Premium Sports pack offers.
I knew the ride would be firmer and there would be additional road noise which we decided we could live with. the test drive (major artery & free way) resulted in what we expected to get.
Since returning to our regional centre we too have been suffering "clunks" mainly coming from the r/h front but have not yet had the chance to investigate. We went out on Mothers Day with 5 in the vehicle and it wasn't as noticeable.
As this is our first Subi in 28 years i'm disappointed this would happen to a late model spec vehicle considering the 2005 BA (110,000klm) we are selling rides the road well.

I've read all posts & searched for suspension issues and was hoping you experienced members could offer some thoughts.
I did read where it was mentioned the Bilsteins were warranted for life (i think) but they lack the rubber caps so can make more noise. any help appreciated before I go to our local Subaru Dealer.

Ive noticed one of the whiteline sway bar D bushes on the front is not gripping the sway bar like it should. The other one is solid as a rock. Im thinking of putting new urethane bushes in incase its this thats making the noise.

I don't think this has been mentioned but if your struts have ever been out there is a chance the top hats could have been mixed up and put on the wrong sides of the car. This happened to me, clunks were pretty severe, and it just happened to be the spring rotating around. Swapped over the top hats and everything was fine.

If it makes the noise while not moving and just turning the steering wheel its one possibility, I'm sure you guys would have all thought of that thou.

Struts have never been out since Ive taken ownership of the car. So hard to say. Gonna try the cheapest option first. Failing that, the struts will come out for inspection.

Car went to the dealer today, yes r/h strut bolt was loose.
All fixed and tight as a drum now, but I'm a bit worried as they said" oh this cars been fitted with Bilstein suspension" I said it's supposed to be, it's a sports premium model. "oh we haven't had one of those here before" WTF!

Joys of living rural

Something i'll be keeping an ear on now.
