BRZ wheels on Gen4 05 GT

Postby tacoflavour » Wed Dec 11, 2013 6:58 pm

Well I am being poor atm, knowing I am about to replace all the brakes, so I went a cheap options on getting new tyres, the answer... replace with rims with new rims that come with tread,

BRZ Rims with Michelin HP primacy tyres, for cheaper than I could have purchased the tyres for =D (exact same size) (had done less than 25k's)

Came out better than I though (Plates about to be changed to ACT)

I get the distinct feeling the designers of the BRZ/86 wheels took their design cues from the Bob Jane catalogue.

Hate them, but they are very light for OE wheels.

I disagree. These mags look great on the 86/BRZ, and look half decent on the 4th gen. The design is a homage to the Toyota 2000GT magnesium alloys.

No I'm not high. The design does not look tough but I really do think it suit the Toybaru coupes .

A couple of them are usually parked near my work every day and when you check them out in the metal they do look good in my eyes. There is another one that I see that has after market Weds ports or Rays or whatever and it looks better yes, but they would be very pricey rims.

Pre face lift yes. Compared to the post face lift slab sided affairs with the thin slots, only just.

Ha, I did that exact same thing (same tyres as well, ha) - it was cheaper to get those 86 wheels w/ tyres than it was to get new tyres... work that out.

I didn't actually plan on keeping those wheels, but when I tried them on my grey Liberty, they looked great. I actually ended up selling the stock Liberty wheels and keeping the 86 ones on for a while.

I ran them for months, and just a few days ago I bought some new wheels - I got 18x8.5 Rota PWR-FA's in matt steel grey. They look great. I've advertised the 86 wheels and tyres through ebay, and I hope to sell them off for a decent amount.

Hi there, for those who went from 18s to BRZ (or other) 17s, can you tell me if it makes a significant difference in ride and/or handling? I know the Primacy tyres aren't supposed to be the last word (or even the first word) in grip, but damn the 18s with Billies on my Spec B could do with a bit of smoothing out....

Also thinking of trying stock Gen5 17s with the Yokos or 2010-12 WRX 17s - they seem to have about the right rolling radius. Anyone tried those?
