Factory sub with mounting plate. These mounting plates are common in all models the sub is just the Mcintosh option. Easily removed with a few screws.

Pull the plate off and bung in some Dynomat.

FHRX would charge around $500-600 and they would make multiple units if you could get enough people interested. That would probably get the price down a little. All there stuff is free post as well. Give Marty a call there, he is a good guy.

$500 for a sub box seems quite pricey.
Do they pretty much make it exactly like the one in the walk through?

Yep, but better, and they will match the internal size to your sub and it will kick ass.
These guys are one of the top install shops in Australia, but you pay for quality like anything.
Give it a crack yourself. It will only cost a hundred bucks and its just a box at the end of the day. Some carpet from Bunnings matches pretty good and hides all bodgyness.

For a custom wagon sub enclosure, would you recommend 10" or 12" sub, and how many watts RMS to drive it?

I love my live music and especially punchy drum bass, but I also want a sub that can handle deep bass guitar!

I've also got a few 5 channel amps in mind too. Apologies if the topic of 10" vs 12" subs and RMS wattage have been covered in another thread.

Edit: at this stage, Looking at an Alpine type R 10" sub

Paired with factory speakers and this Alpine 5 channel amp:

10 inch will be fine.
Ditch the factory speakers, they are crap. Get some 6 1/2 splits for the front doors or you will have no punch. Alpine make some pretty good ones for less than $150.00

Or these are a good buy http://www.soundmaster.com.au/Pioneer-T ... /TSD1720C/

Here is a review for front splits http://www.caraudio.com.au/content/affo ... ts-review/
Run all 4 channels to the front speakers and the 500w channel for the sub. Rear speakers aren't used ever.

Here is your sub at 300w htmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vjrBYk9S3E With factory speakers it will sound terrible at best and the amp will blow them up in no time.

here is a box http://streetsoundvision.com.au/shop/sh ... -asc510sp/

To buy anything without hearing them first is a risk so if there is a local store near you its well worth your time to pop in and listen as much as you can. I buy all my stuff from FHRX even though he is more expensive. He is 10 mins from my house and electronic equipment does shit itself on occasion.

If the sub is well tuned it could sound all rightish but yeah. For me, as soon as money permits I'm getting new splits at least. I've got a type-R but I kinda like poo your pants bass haha. Just finishing Dynamat. I'm building a full MDF box over the next couple of days...

Some more progress today. These compound curves are frustrating but I'm managing to keep it tightly put together.

Is there anyone out there keen to build a sub box for my 05 gt for the right price?

To fit rear left area of gt wagon, with Mcintosh 8" sub and mounting plate removed.

Hoping to flush fit a 10" alpine type r sub.

I'm fitting a type-r in my box and let me tell you. It's gonna be tight. My box comes out as far as the edge of the spare wheel cover and the sub will squeeze in. Maybe in a fiberglass box you can get the magnet into the cavity but it's gonna be super tight

For some reason I wrote rear left, but what I meant to say was rear right, where the factory 8" sub goes.

I'll probably run a removable box with a 12" sub for a little while to see how it sounds.
