It was actually 2 hours on the dyno(I have the start and end dyno times, 6.07pm when I loaded first tune on and 8pm when we got off the dyno, then under 2 hours of road tuning taking into account time to get off the dyno and help Dan shut the factory for a finish time of 10pm, so about 3 and a half hours) which considering I had more 30% more torque@wheels at 2800rpm(388 Vs 475) on my initial tune...

The transmission actually controls slip, feed it the right numbers and no more slip unless the abuse has been so significant that it is unrecoverable. Everyone goes on about IAM but the TCU has Torque Request Management(TRM) which is the equivalent for transmissions... The ECU will drop line pressure as slip occurs to stop excessive heat/friction. It is possible to 'fix' the slip by tuning the auto correctly and I have proven that on a few cars(around 60 or so) and when the TCU drops TRM, it limits throttle on stalled up launches and the car will barely want to spin the wheels on take off
I know of an MY11 STi Impreza 5EAT with a 20g that previously needed 103% WGDC(lol!) to get it onto boost and end up that the transmission was slipping that badly it was barely driveable, I tuned the DBW properly and had to drop WGDC to 45% as it actually let the turbo spool and make torque. With 4 big blokes in the car it actually had wheelspin.
Everyone just assumes crank up the power and make power on an auto.... look at the boosted V8 Commodore guys or the XR6T's and wonder why the tuners spend so much time getting the transmission to hold the torque.
