I've been trying to make an overlay or split screen video of matt's tuned and my car... haha no luck so far, freeware can't handle it :D If someone tech video savvy could help...IMO it would make for a cool video :)

It looks to me like both cars do it in a very similar 5 secs time - once the car (speedo) starts moving - but if we're going from when the throttle is applied, my car revs a lot faster. And so overall time from applying the throttle to 100 is considerably faster. I'm guessing it's due to my extra torque?

Check this: https://cobb.app.box.com/subaru-table-list and look at page 28... see how they list all the manuals for Gear Ratios? The Autos have the TCU 'generate' a road speed for the dash based on engine rpm and the actual gear your in but does not need to relate to wheel speed or even diff speeds.

Background: Virtual Dyno can read a stupidly high power output(like 400Kw VF46) in a manual if the clutch is slipping, as it does not need a kph input. If the clutch slips, engine rpm increases fast(3600rpm to rev limit in 3rd in no time at all) and VD assumes your making bulk power to make it do that. Same concept is true for an auto, slipping auto = faster acceleration on the RPM = more power. Thing is, in real life that RPM also means the speedo in an auto accelerates faster but it takes time to grab the next gear.
That was why when you PM'd me about gearshifts and the GenV tables not making any changes to 'acceleration' logs hinted at why ;)
Compare 60kph and 80kph and tell me what the tacho is doing in comparison ;)
Use a GPS speed meter and compare 100kph on the speedo to 100kph on the tacho. I know when your car ran on the RTR dyno, it was 1200rpm out for roller speed Vs speedo which is 2/11th's so technically you would need 125kph or so under acceleration on the dash(considering the factory speedo discrepancy) to get to 100kph road speed. On cruising when the Trans is not trying to transfer bulk torque, the speedo is obviously right. That dyno comparison PM applies here as well :)

Basically, the above is why the LegcacyGT guys in the USA all talk about the slip and slushy gearshifts. Slush is because the auto is still transferring power from previous gear despite the gear change having occured due to rpm. That is what I am 'fixing' in the US tunes and is why cars are dropping half a second after being tuned previously.

How quick is a stock 2011 5EAT when running more boost? ;)

Hey Matt,

I'll reply in more detail later but for now

My speedo is off by about 8%, it hits true 100km/hr between 105-110. From what you're saying - my speedo should be fine, but my tacho might be off. But my speedo still hits 100 km/hr quite a bit before the other car. And I'm assuming his speedo will also be off 5-10%. I've spent an hour yesterday overlaying the videos, and checking them down to 0.1 of a second. (An hour because the bloody software won't produce the video as usable file :D)

Let's assume my auto is slipping, and my speedo was off by 25km/hr (come on Matt! You'd think I would have noticed over two years!!!) and let's assume our cars accelerate at exactly the same rate. Shouldn't my car be slower then, as my auto is slipping?

What you're missing is if auto is slipping, your speed isn't actualy what it shows on your speedo

Think doing a burnout- you're not moving anywhere but speedo is showing 60km/h

The correlation between slip and power on the dyno is dubious (as whilst slipping there isn't enough load to inflate power numbers substantially)

But correlation between slip and speed makes sense

Speed is calculated via the wheel speed sensors.. if the car is slipping in the auto or clutch the rpm goes up doesn't mean it reaches 100 faster. VD not good get to the 1/4

Manual only.
Auto has speed sensors in the box.

I stand corrected, though those sensors will pick up out put from the front and rear drive so even if the box is slipping it still will show the correct speed

Exactly. Otherwise I'd be hitting 100km/hr in Park.

my car has 235 tyres so true 100kmph is around 101 on my dash where most stock dash show 105 being true 100kmph (give or take) so this will adjust results a very small amount

You mean you have 45 tyres?

Mick, I didn't miss Matt's point about my speedo being off by 25km on acceleration, which I personally believe is ridiculous.

This year I've driven 4 different cars fairly regularly, all autos, all for extended periods of time, all behave similar with regards to speedo and acceleration. To say I wouldn't suddenly notice a drastic change like 20kms on a speedo - once I got into my lib after driving a dsg golf gti for two weeks.... you're really stretching it Matt :D

But I'm game enough to test it out for you with a gps! (Already tested before, but I'll make a video). That should save us all from arguing.

ive got 235/40/18 not 225/40/18 which the tunned by sti in 08 had the 06 tuned by sti had 215/45/18 as did the gtb too.
because mine are wider this effects the aspect ratio making the tyres slightly taller, these 235/40/18 are wider than my old 235/40/18 tyres which was strange

yep,
Video of GPS and Speedo in shot
Also if you launch it with the handbrake and normal brake and ditch them at the same time, we'll see the HB light go off at the start point

Hey Rob, that's the plan, except I won't be launching, if you meant brake boosting?

from not moving to moving is still launching :D

My old leggy would get up 2700-2800 rpm and 12psi of boost on the brake :D
about 4-5seconds and the brakes couldn't hold it

Haha yeah I realized so I reworded it to brake boosting :D

12psi sounds fun. I just want to keep the format of the videos the same

My apologies for a really shaky video, having to hold the camera at this distance and the road surface combined with the tune being back at full timing....it's quite fail for a scientific review, but for our purposes it should be good enough :)

Please note the gps does lag. I released the throttle at roughly 120 on the speedo, as you should see from the tacho (edit: you should hear me let off the throttle). So I believe it's safe to assume the car stops accelerating at that point, and if anything should begin decelerating. The gps shows 115 within a second.

I think this settles the auto slipping myth.

Surely it's easier to believe that a more modified liberty, albeit on stock turbo and engine, would have more torque and thus would rev faster and build speed faster? Than say my speedo being off by 25km?
