Non-Iridium spark plugs for 3.0R Outback

Postby m1keb1ggs » Mon Feb 24, 2014 8:50 pm

Hi gents,

I'm hoping there is a quick and short answer to this...

What non-Iridium sparkplug options do we have for a 3.0R Outback. Since the Subaru Iridiums cost more than the Iridiums for my Audi S8 I thought I better ask.

Thanks in advance :)

I'd rather pay for the Iridium's than spend 2-3hrs changing some plugs every 25k km.

Looked into Denso's from a Toyota dealer? Part number is "IKH20".

Thanks sheppo9. I agree that the Iridiums are the way to go for longevity, and the decision to go standards and be under the car every 25k would be based on how "fun" they are to change. Certainly doesn't look as easy as the Audi plugs. Those chassis rails look awfully close.

The Denso IKH20 are very well priced, so I think I'll try those. Do you have experience with them?

You own a Audi S8 and you're worried about the $$ of spark plugs

Put some in my wife's car awhile ago, no issues.

LH side I did from the top - remove the washer bottle battery etc.
RH side I did from underneath - removed the airbox etc for some light and to see abit easier.
Think it took me just under 2 hours and wouldn't want to do them again any time soon.

all you need for plugs is a 1/4dr socket and the right length (short) wobble extension with external hex.
drop a ratchet ring spanner on the extension and it's done.

The reason I worry about the price of sparkplugs is because I own an S8 :) Plus its not like its a new S8. Sure it was $259k new but I basically paid the GST of that 8)

But seriously, paying $40 for a set of plugs was naturally more appealing than the quoted $145, but I'll invest in the Denso Iridiums since it sounds like more of a chore than first anticipated.

Thanks for the tips guys, I might search for a few picies of the tools used to ensure I have something suitable.
