What about getting the PFL seats, maybe getting a motor trimmer fit some denser foam for better bolstering again as the PFL seats still leave something to be desired, and getting the runners extended to give a little more room? I'm nearly as tall at 188cm and I might be looking at this option.

I already have a PFL but might grab some 2006 TbSTI seats with the suede/alacantra inserts whilst I'm at it.

Please stop using PFL, it is not an accurate way to describe your model of vehicle

That was exactly what I did. What I meant was that is our only option in terms of swapping seats. Aftermarket seats won't work if you want to keep factory airbag functionality.

Even then it requires some work to make the airbags work properly as the plugs are not the same

Well I spend 80% of my km on the highway & I got to say the GT-B seats suck. I could drive 1300km in either the Audi, the B4 Liberty or the Clubsport I drove previously and get out feeling quite comfortable at the end of it. Half that in my 09 GT-B and I start to hurt in the legs & neck. Hop in a mates GTO Coupe or another mates Statesman and do the same drive and I hop out fine. For me, that speaks volumes for the crap seats in the Liberty and if I can fit Audi S6 seats into my car or I can get S402 seats for a sensible price then mine are gone...

Re-trimming airbag seats requires special stitching that lets the bags burst out...
Any airbag accredited motor trimmer should be able to turn your seats into more deeply bolstered versions, just be sure to get a quote before proceeding!

Yes, I have swapped pre facelift seats into mine. They sit lower and have tighter bolsters. Unfortunately there are no other options that allow you to fully retain factory airbag functionality unless you spend 3k on STI Recaros that have occupancy sensor, position sensor and bolster airbags.

Trust me I've searched long and hard...

Besides the bolstering, the alcantara really helps the corners. Good upgrade.

So, a mate with an MY00 WRX drove me home the other day, and his ~14yo seats blew away the seats in my ~5yo car. Nicely supportive without being overly tight.

So now I'm chasing some leather WRX seats with the full compliment of airbags. And I have a good lead...

They should be compatible. You wouldn't have any trouble finding power for the passenger seat - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if you found the plug is already down under the seat, just not used in your particular case.

I may push the Spec.B seats into the MY05 Outback actually, that'd be a good use for them if I do replace them!

The electric plug is already under the passenger seat - just plug it in.

If you got the JDM-spec heated seats, you could run that too. The loom's all the same.

I may push the Spec.B seats into the MY05 Outback actually, that'd be a good use for them if I do replace them!

You will need to make an adapter to make facelift seats plug into pre-facelift and vice-versa as the plug is different (but the electrics themselves are otherwise identical). Just cut the cable off the relevant doner car from a wrecker and solder on some shoe adapters to connect into your car's plug. For example, doing pre-facelift electric seats into a facelift car will require you to do this.
