H6 Oil capacity

So, the owners manual confirms what the gods of Google told me.
The H6 engine holds 5.5 litres of oil.

So on the weekend I went to supercheap auto and purchased a 6 litre bottle of Penrite Everyday 10w-40 full synthetic oil and a filter.
Went home, drained the oil, did the sump plug back up, changed the filter and proceeded to pour in the new oil.
I stopped pouring at 5.5litres, waited a couple of minutes and checked the dip stick. It was on the low mark.
I poured the remaining 0.5 litre in. After waiting, the dip stick was halfway between low and high.

Now that I have a full 6 litres of oil in the car, I don't want to put too much more in, but think I should.

Is it normal for this engine to want more than specified in the manual?
And yes I have checked, there are no leaks. Everything is tight.

I did mine on Australia Day weekend.
Similar Story.
In went 5.5 litres and it was halfway between the two dots or two holes.
Put in the half litre up to 6 litres and it just popped over the top of the full dot.
Such is life?

Well I'm halfway between the 2 marks and i already have 6 litres in. So to fill it I reckon i need another half a litre.
This would make 6.5 litres.
Hard to believe that your engine and mine have 2 different sized sumps. This is why I asked...

read your owners manual on the proper procedure for checking oil level.

Which involves warming the engine and letting it sit for a prescribed amount of time.
Remember how things (especially liquids) expand when they get hot.....
