Was Matt and vinny happy with the results ?

What boost are u running ?

Matt and Vinny thought it was a good result, but I think they were just talking it up as it was probably easy to see the disappointment on my face. But there was a 10% gain from the base run.

Hard to know precisely the boost, as there is no direct sensor, but the reference used by Vinny was at the BOV. Afterward they indicated 6~6.5 psi. Not quite as high as the spec on Tim's website, but hey, each car is different. Might have a small leak and will put that on the to-do list for checking.

Will have to investigate the boost gauge again. I like the Vent Style as they fit the profile of my build, but last time I looked, they had no stock of the RHD model.

I'm not sure what to think here.

For the total cost of the mods and the effort to get this car right, the figure to me seems low.

BBB got 168kws on this dyno with a very conservative tune, 11 psi from memory.

Mark I'm sure it's a 'nice daily driver' but given the mods you've installed, was that the goal here?

Were there any reasons why the car didn't get to nearer to 200kws at least? Given Gino's manual car made 237kws with pretty much a similar setup, is the auto box to blame? Or those custom muffs?

I was expecting close to 200kw and would have been happy with 180+ but this figure is a little under my power figure expectation. Not sure how to interpret the torque result as 400nm atw is on or above target for me. And the torque is what gives me the good driving feel. The flat torque curve at a higher level than stock was and still remains the goal.

I am a bit suspicious of the exhaust as 3.0-inch is probably too large, but on the plus side, the torque goal is being achieved.

So, should I be concerned over another dyno power figure that looks a bit low? By all the posts around this forum about the different happy and tough dynos, I am not that bothered by a different dyno yielding a low figure. But if that tough dyno result also applies to the torque results, then maybe my torque results are better than I was expecting.

Why the necessity for big numbers ?
More or less stock fuel system, no intercooler, daily driver, the list goes on.
I'll bet it's still scintillating to drive

Mufflers are restricting flow significantly but it into perspective, Vin did a Forester S Edition a few days ago that only managed 140kw with TBE + Tune. We actually concentrated on a smooth/flat torque curve rather than outright top end. Variable Valve Lift is the final piece of the puzzle along with a new MAP sensor to finalise the car

There is no restriction in the mufflers. They have been gutted and built with 2.5-inch straight thru perforated section and ss wool packed. The centre muffler also has straight thru perforated section but at 3.0-inch.

The new MAP Sensor will go in today (after the garage cools off a bit), then a bit of logging to send back to Matt.

Looking forward to feeling the surge when the AVCS opens up at lower rpm. Originally at 3500 rpm for stock, currently at 3000 rpm. Targeting 2500 rpm when the full airflow is measured and scaled properly.

Get a staight through / perforated tube/ glass packed mid muff: I'm not keen on your offset one, it adds heaps of virtual length to the zorst. If it drones use a side branch resonator...

Find the rag that got left somewhere in the induction path, it wouldn't be the first time it's happened on a build...

Something doesn't sound right.

400nm of torque is a great result

But 169kw = 226 hp atw.

Formula for power is : HP = torque (in ft lbs) x rpm / 5252

400nm = 295 ft lbs

Therefore :

226 = 295 x (x) / 5252

X = ( 226 x 5252) / 295

X = 4023 rpm

So your peak power is occurring at 4023 rpm from this calculation. Something isn't right as your peak power should be at peak airflow which should be alot higher than at 4000rpm for a H6 in healthy condition with intake, exhaust and other mods

Have you measured back pressure in exhaust on boost?

Reflecting on my previous post, there may be a flaw in my logic

I have assumed peak power is at peak torque, which is not necessarily always the case

It could well be that peak torque is at 4500rpm, and by 6000rpm it has dropped back to 300nm

Then that would shift the power curve to the right.

So it really depends on the dyno graph

Torque is at the wheels, not flywheel so you need to consider gear ratio and rolling diameter to convert back to torque at flywheel.

Considering the WTA cooler temps had skyrocketed and the MAF was registering 70 degrees BUT it did allow tuning for a worse case scenario. Dyno temp probe was showing 33 degrees. Alex's car went on after 12 and IAT was at 70* celcius with 42 dyno temps.

Easy way to show the difference is that the MAF needing to go over 300g/sec

Mark - looking at that graph makes me happy in the pants. That torque curve is incredible. Very very broad.

Which tells me two things:

1. The base power output is low.

2. The torque is broad and flat which means as revs build power should build which it is - however power which is a product of

Just put the new MAP sensor in and started the engine (cool change came through and dropped outside temp from 39 down to 29 in about 5 minutes!).

Initially, from a cold start, revs ramped up to 2000 rpm at idle, then started to correct itself in steps. After a minutes it was all idling normally, maybe a touch on the high side of normal.

Off to do some logging now to send it off to Matt.

How many deg timing is pulled at that high iat Matt kido? Is there any difference between a turbo and 3l when this happens ?
