Had a look at GROM units? They allow iPhone connectivity to the stock HU.

Awesome! It seems like it would work.. But is it comparable with the factory kenwood unit that's my only query.

Seems it fits in-line on the McIntosh's Nav port.
Any ideas on how you select the Aux Ins on it ?

On pre-facelift, pressing CD reapeatedly switches between in-dash 6 disc and the AUX in.

I had one in my 04 Outback 3.0 and it plugged into the CHR port. Pressing CHR on the stereo switched to the FSL input. Worked fine and never had a problem. Only drawback is you are going out of the analogue headphone port not the digital so no charging without a lighter plug.
