E85 Upgrade & Parts Required

Postby PUDZ RSC3.0RB » Tue Jan 28, 2014 2:39 pm

Update : Mods happening soon. :)

So from here the mods will be:

Pre E85 - Matts preferred Denso map sensor upgrade, recalibrated to read max boost on my PLX Device
- Retune definately/Dyno if required once Matt has the Calculated Engine Torque Tables sorted in the next week or so.

E85 - For the moment stick with 61mm S/C pulley

- DW 65c pump (Done)

- 440cc injectors (Done with S/C install)

- Turbosmart FPR 800 with associated upgrade fittings. 1/8th NPT - 8mm hose fittings. Not 100% sure on this.

- Upgrade Xhorst rear y-pipe to 2.25" - 3.0", more research required and any opinions gladly accepted. Raptor headers - 2.5" 200 cel cats, 2.5" third cat delete,
2.5" GT resonator & 2.5" Tcp Auto Quad hi-flow mufflers (Done)

- Upgrade spark plugs to NGK LFR7AIX with supplied gap 0.32mm (Purchased). There was talk in another tread to close the gap to 0.28mm for E85. Not sure on this.

- E85 specific engine oil - yet to be decided. Research to be done. Opinions gladly accepted

- Complete Retune/Dynotune with Matt (Kido-Tuning)

- Water/Meth injection will be seriously considered down the track, especially if max boost is raised with smaller s/c pulley.

- Please feel free to add ur 2cents worth and mention anything I may have missed.

- Hopefully Smiling :)

440 injectors might be a bit small. They will good for about 320 crank hp on e85 at 90% duty cycle. You want to run something up around the 750cc mark.
Dw650s have been frying in a few cars on e85. Also, night be a bit light on for flow feeding 6 750s.
No need to go e85 specific oil, just change the oil every 1500-2000 km.

The PINK 565cc STI inject should nearly cover the game ........

From memory the post face lift gt/gtb/tbsti stock injectors are 550, so one could upgrade to those too if you can't find sti pink 565.

I'm using sti pink injectors in my setup. Cant recall my idc, but my tuner told me they were overkill for my pump fuel tune and enough headroom for E85.

Remember the H6 stock injectors are 270ish.

All this talk of using oem injectors is nice, but not enough on e85. And cranking up the fuel pressure and over driving the injectors isnt the best idea.

565ccs on a supercharged 6 would be good for 407 crank HP on 43.5 psi. Which is stock fuel pressure.
Everyone talks of big power supercharged h6s. Pudz has the chance to do it.

Blue EJ25 turbo injectors are only good for maybe 250kw atw on e85(6 of them). We used these on the turbo EZ30 on the 220ish KW tune but Tony (Coyote) requested they be changed for larger units before pushing more power.

I'd go id1000's and be done with it. A couple hundred more but you know you will be fine

Blue 2.5t injectors will be at close to 100% duty cycle at 250awkw

And base pressure would need to be upped to 47.5psi at least. Add 10 psi boost and 2-5psi fuel system losses, you're up to 60psi at the pump in order to cope. What's the flow of a dw65c at that fuel pressure? What's the current draw and will the stock wiring be adequate?

In terms of oil - how many kms has your engine done? If more than 100,000kms I'd be using penrite ten tenths racing 10w40. If under then penrite tenth tenths racing 5w30.

If you asked me 6 months ago I would've also recommended Nulon's latest full synth series (either 5w30 or 5w40), but their cst rating at 100 degrees is too thick for anything other a fully built motor with generous piston to bore clearand in my opinion. Tbn is higher (better) than penrites and hths is also solid but the viscosity at 100 degrees is too much in my humble opinion for a stock clearanced Subaru engine pushing big power.

But either way, change it every 3500 kms at the very latest.

Good luck Pugz look forward to the results

I should note that both the above oils recommended are now API SN compliant for use with ethanol fuels.

I haven't done any research but what about stock 2.5t injectors modded for more flow?
Is it bunkum?

Well lads thanx so much for the great feedback, all this info and opinions from such an experienced bunch is awesome and very much appreciated.

I guess now I will need some time to take it all in and make an informed & sensible decision on how far I want to take this, considering the Lib is a daily and
my only pride n joy.

Obviously Ill need to also have a chat with Matt to see what his thoughts are on all that has been discussed so far. He's away currently doing his stuff, so
hopefully he may chime in.

Im pretty keen for the E85 upgrade and also making some more power (not massive, ie 230-240 awk max) , but without compromising what I already have
in terms of driveability and reliability. I'll leave the big power to you Gino :), seeing ur already close to 400bhp at the crank.

Im thinking right now id like to limit injectors to the blue 560cc, seeing as I already have 4 of them. Denso no: AG6CO, please correct me if im wrong.

Mick - in regard to ur comments re dw65c and stock wiring, I have no idea right now and will have to do my research. Certainly don't want issues with wiring
and fryed fuel pumps, so will have to take this into account.

Honestly guys im not into the KW numbers but I may have to limit to a figure to avoid possible problems mentioned and having some headroom with the
blue 560cc.

I brought the LIb 12 mths ago with 71,000km, it was tuned by Matt immediately and now has 87,000 on her. 4,500km with Raptor S/C installed.
Thanx for the heads up on oils and the shorter changes. Im currently running Penrite Syn 10/40 API/SN with zero consumption - so no complants. I currently
have the last 5000km drop in for analysis, so the results will be interesting.

Nearly went with the 10 10ths, so most certainly will with E85.

Cheers n Thanx
