Big end bearing death rattle?

Postby goatsie » Wed Jan 29, 2014 7:39 pm

Hey all,

Pretty sure this is a big end bearing death rattle......

Just wondering if anyone can possibly confirm this?
Noise gets much, MUCH worse when it's revved.

Cheers!

Noticed a slight rattle when I was driving. Then next time I started it, this was going on.

Now I just need to know what my options are if anyone can help!

Rising Sun Subaru in Queensland do EJ257 short blocks + New oil pump + gasket kit for a good price. Budget around $1200 for labour

148k.

I'm wondering if there is any chance it could be something else because the sound literally appeared instantly, it wasn't a slow knocking sound coming on as most have described before the big end bearing going. Though, there's every chance I may not have heard or notice this.....

There was a severe loss of power, I could barely manage to ge tto 60km/h driving it home. Is this a result of the big end bearing going?
I've been told to get a compression test before jumping to any conclusions.

Drop the oil through a strainer to see whats in it...
Go from there. I can give you a hand if you are not too far away from Collingwood...

I'm in Croydon.

I'll drop the oil as soon as I can and see what's in there.
