So what was the price with the HG, timing belt kit and water pump (cast impeller?) and labour, ie the total cost?

3L H6 has timing chain so definitely should be cheaper than a H4!!

No quotes I've had are cheaper than H4 option Matt - where is your mechanic I want to go there!

Cheapest quote so far is between $2500 and $3000 including machining the heads. Am using Victor Reinz Head Gasket kit as recommended to me by Tradewind. Apparently better -I can only hope this is true.

I still haven't got around to getting it done - car has no signs of issue until I give it a boot so as a daily driver it's keeping up. I'm sure it's a ticking time-bomb but my wallet is a sad panda.
Hopefully done before Matt is back in March

$2500-$3000 is vastly different from the $7000 quoted by subaru. Some hope for you still!

I've got some good news ..... hasnt been 100% confirmed just as of yet but I could be getting my car fixed for 3 grand, from a mechanic in Preston. Seeming that I'm getting a bargain  I should be able to go on a shopping spree :P

Total cost for me benny was $3200 that included timing belt kit, HG, ARP Head studs and head machined. I didnt grt the water pump done as it was done prior to that.

She is on to her 3rd mechanic apparently its not a head gasket its a water pump which has corroded parts around it (not sure what parts they are at this point). Lets hope its a 3rd time lucky thing

Interesting how the water pump is inside the timing chain case! Mechanic has XRAY vision by sounds of it.
