That answers my next q :)
Apparently Jaydece got to 230atw on a 380xt.

Personally I'd want to make similar power with a bigger turbo at less boost for safety :)

The main reason I went with 18psi is that the wastegate spring on this turbo is pretensioned for 18psi (at least according to Perrin who resell this turbo). Otherwise I was going to run 17psi. 18psi is still safe so long as the tune is adjusted accordingly. I'm all about reducing lag as much as possible. This setup spools crazy fast. At least it would if it was working properly. I did have a brief period of hitting max boost around or under 2500rpm before the troubles emerged.

tune is everything ;)
fascinated to see what the cause of your current issue is - just downloading libreoffice so i can convert your log to csv for megalogviewer...

Here it is in csv. Used xls for graphs.

scattergraph of your log.

interesting that boost is so slow to build...

are you logging the zeitronix afr?

can you post a big log of eg 15 min mixed driving with stock or wb02 afr and flkc?

I'm a n00b at this but a bigger dataset would be interesting in megalog scatter mode. ;)

STechnic logged that for me. The only thing I have to log with is my DashDAQ and thats no good because it logs subaru specific data very slowly (700-1000ms). Turns out Drewtech arnt using SSMII protocol for their Subaru driver and they dont really care enough to add it. I can only rapidly log AFR and EGT vs Time via the zeitronix. I'm pretty sure AFR looks good. EGT has been a bit higher than usual lately.

I googled "boost oscillation" and found this post on nasioc :)

Good reading!

Adjust WG arm or remove restrictor pill from boost hose :)

Yeah, that has been my train of thought as well but being locked into the Cruise AVCS during hard acceleration is no exactly helping spool. Wondering if the WG arm got bumped when the turbo came off for the clutch.

Wastegate pressure of 18psi means it runs 18psi and not lazy to spool like it is.

I'm not convinced of the wastegate solution. If there was too much preload then I should overshoot the boost target but I'm missing it by about 1psi. If there was too little preload then wastegate duty cycle would be much higher to compensate. Wastegate duty cycle on my last log looked a little odd to me. Could the ECU itself be doing this on purpose due to AVCS/OCV issues?

I have not seen or experienced that issue, at all.

Can you find a local member with a tactrix and get logs of a 3rd gear pull and 15 min of mixed driving inc off and on boost conditions?
And with matts logger profile?

The latter because megalogviewer can handle a big data set and can plot a spark and ve tables for analysis :)
It could help...

eg:

VE table

X=MAP
Y=RPM
Z=AFR

spark table

X=MAP
Y=RPM
Z=Knock

Image

So looking at the time vs boost vs WDC plot, the oscillation is happening at 0% WDC...

From the Cobb Tuning: How Subaru's Factory Boost Control System Works article...

"A 0% Wastegate Duty Cycle (WGDC) setting will allow the solenoid to stay fully closed; which will force the turbo to run mechanical boost pressure. A 100% WGDC setting will force the solenoid to stay fully open; which will force the turbo to run maximum boost pressure."

Mike's car is locked in the AVCS Cruise only map, no 'Non Cruise' performance being offered. Wastegate pressure is wastegate pressure though, so 0% WGDC is what ever the wastegate is. So it needing more duty and still not reaching boost, plus being lazy suggests that the WG flap is flowing exhaust gas, it struggles to reach enough backpressure to maintain boost and then u top where thr turbine housing becomes a restriction, it pulses/eddies the boost as the exhaust backpressure pushes the flap open further.

So whats the cause of it being stuck in that AVCS cruise mode?

The chart I'm looking at from the log doesnt show wastegate duty cycle hitting 0% until the throttle is released. Boost and WDC are oscillating together between 3500-5100rpm with the boost oscillating between 27psi and 32psi absolute and the wastegate oscillating between 4% and 14%.

OCV problems are the most likely cause of the AVCS issues. Two new ones have been ordered. I'm hoping the get here in time for my next visit to the mechanic.

Good stuff thanks for enduring my amateurism.
Btw the OCV's are totally DIY-able if you cbf'd :)

Unfortunately I cannot bf'd. I'm also not entirely comfortable pulling apart things this expensive. Got other stuff to have done at the same time anyway. Getting a turbo blanket and some ID1000 injectors fitted at the same time. Also, new right door seal. Lets not talk about how much a genuine door seal costs. Someone somewhere is havin' a laugh.
