Speaker polarity

So I finally got back off my arse to start wiring my new amp and headunit up, i've used a multimeter to determine the correct wires for the headunit now i'm moving onto the amp & stock speakers.

I can't seem to find a matching wiring loom online so I think i'll be resorting to doing a speaker polarity test to determine what goes where. That's fine, but I still need to know the correct wires (positive/negative), what's my best bet for determining this without taking the doors off and following wires throughout the car?

I know you can listen to the pop when doing the test (which im yet todo), but based off that I doubt i'll be able to determine the direction the speaker is going just by hearing it. Is there a default, as in all wires top are positive, all wires bottom are negative?

I have converted my 08 gtb from Mcintoss to a JVC HU, but forget the details. I used a harness/connector made for me by Dave Carter (svxdc on legacygt.org), specifically for Mcintoss DIN connector to the Mc speaker plug at the amp.
This site gives std aftermarket wire colour codes - http://knowledge.sonicelectronix.com/ca ... dards.html
Take this list to autobarn , locate an Aerpro harness for the model Suby, workout which aerpro wire goes where.....

or lookup svxdc on legacygt.org and ask him for help with your specific HU etc. He is very helpful, and not expensive.

Appreciate the info, I found the correct location of positive and negative by following the subwoofers wire's which maintained the same colour code. There isn't an aerpro harness to convert the amp wiring to what i needed.

Turns out i've got a 6 channel McIntosh Amp (EF-1259I), I ended up just googling the amp and came across: http://nzlamb.wordpress.com/2010/06/17/ ... formation/

J102 18Pin was the plug I was after. Hopefully this'll be helpful for others that may run into this issue.

just as an FYI, i learnt a nifty way to determine polarity of a speaker using a battery. take one wire and connect it to negative and tap the other wire to positive. if the cone moves outward upon closing the circuit then polarity is how the battery terminals are connected, and if it moves inward then obviously its the reverse.

Yup that was what I was doing but I didn't want to take a door off to watch the speaker.
