Smallest turbo to suit EL headers/stock 2.5T?

Yes, those 3mm or compressor make a huge difference. Oh, I made 290kw at wheels from a 2ltr on a known low reading dyno with the very set up BBB is looking at buying. The price that BBB is getting this from RSS is a steal. I have nothing to gain saying this, as I have already sold it to them, thus am making nothing off this transaction. Do it BBB.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

It's perfect, even has the billet actuator so I can belt a 9psi spring in it.

Just need to pass on the VF52 and the headers I already stockpiled...

I thought you were scared of big turbos Benny?

I don't really think comparing that built ej257 is fair against an unopened ej255.

For reference...phat talked me out of getting a dom1.5xtr...

It all depends on ones strategy from what I can tell.

I'm loving the smoothness of the low boost tune for example.
Its shown me that elements of the system don't necessarily need to be maxed out to perform well.

For example:
Billet comp wheels provide some extra low down response.
BB core can assist transient response.
So the suggested turbo has in effect more usable range, plus more flow.

As mentioned previously gains can be made comfortably, with headroom and at similar boost levels.

So whilst my line of inquiry began with the idea of using the smallest turbo possible for a required power figure, I've learned that billet n bb tech with an appropriate tune may provide the exception to that rule.

His engine hasn't got head work or cams it might be different comp but not that much different other than e85

Why what did he say buy bigger lol at the end of the day the blouch 1.5 has heaps of great reviews and so does all the others if Ben can get a cheap 20g I'd get that cause they re very pricy turbos

Here's the Nasioc post by Maxwell Power which made it clear why I'd prefer to make the power from timing at a very conservative 12-15psi. That info made so much about EJ's much clearer to me.

That is an EXCELLENT technical post.
I'd never spend enough time studying why the bore/ stroke ratio was so important. (another reason why i don't like 2.5's that much)

Now I have to read all of MP's posts for more gems of knowledge.

just don't get too carried away with too much timing low boost for e85 if you ever go down that rd...

mynameisdaniel has 2.45 degees more than pump fuel on E85 at peak power and 0.7 degrees more at peak torque

6 degrees globally is a great way to slow the piston speed down on spool though(seen it while I was in Melbourne)

1.76 since timing is also load dependant and his OL fuel table was not touched

E85 slows down engine speed if you wind in too much and it feels noticeably slower

yeah I guess too much will make the car run backwards

why didn't you have touch up ol fuel?

Because there was no need to lean out the OL fuel table despite it being comparably rich

I stumbled across the APS Turbo website and really dug the 3D efficiency maps and comparos.

http://www.airpowersystems.com/wrx/aps_ ... hnical.htm

It gives a great indication of how narrow the efficiency envelope is for stock turbos, and just how much greater it is with an upgrade turbo.

I finally get the finer implications of compressor maps for comparitive turbos and what Rob was talking about regarding more flow at a given boost level :)
