I'm in the market for some new tyres at the moment. I know what brand/model tyres I want but I don't know if I should get 225/40R18 or 235/40R18.
Is anyone running 235/40R18 on the stock tbSTI rims? If so, could you perhaps post some pictures? I would be keen to see how 235/40R18 fils out the guards and how it looks overall.
All input appreciated. Thanks in advance =)
I have been running 235/40/18 on Oz racing Ultraleggara 18*8 for sometime now on a standard height car. They have never scrubbed and the braking has improved noticeably (with no other mods) from stock 215/45 that were fitted on my GT-B when I bought it.
I went for the Dunlop Eagle Asymmetric F1's which pretty well won every tyre test around the globe in the previous 12 months in that size. They are a lot quieter than the factory tyres too. If I was doing track days my choice would have been different but most of my driving is highway where the tyres just don't get hot enough to go off. 235/40/18 is apparently a standard size for commodore & falcon & was about $100 a corner cheaper than the factory 215/45 /18's. Other factors influencing my decision was the same rolling diameter as factory (ok 1mm difference if you want to be pedantic) and higher load rating so no issues with police & actually safer.
The only downside it have noticed was the stone chips along the lower body increased markedly with the wider tyres. To fix that I fitted rally armour mud flaps f&r which has all but eliminated the problem. Yes I could also slow down on gravel roads but that's not my driving style...each to their own I guess...
Good luck!
