Amp Install Help

Postby Jayraddd » Tue Nov 26, 2013 6:37 pm

Heya.

So did a search but yet again, no luck.

Wondering if anyone can link me to an install guide for an Amp in a Gen4.

I know how to install an amp, I've done it a few times now. Main thing is I'm trying to work out whether to go under the seat or in the boot.. So I want to see how people run the cables through the car..

Thanks.

UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT!!!!! ;)

My power wire goes through the grommet in the firewall, down the side sill and under the carpet to the amp.
My RCA and remote wire run from behind the head unit, down the side of the transmission tunnel then under the carpet to the amp.
My ground wire runs under the carpet and up under the back seat where I've bolted it to the chassis.
And finally my speaker cable (which is the only cable that requires access to the boot) runs from the amp, under the carpet and under the back seat in to the boot.

Thanks man.
Was it fairly easy getting the cables under the carpet ? Never tried, or even looked. Got fitted mats covering majority of the carpet.
Oh, and how did you fix the amp down to stop it moving ?

Agree with Sean. Under the seat is easiest/neatest..

Tho I would not run the Ground for the amp all the way to the back. Shorter the better

And would run the cables along the sill (speaker cable) where possible to avoid it getting crushed being under the carpet (unlikely but good practice I guess)

Easy as to run cables under carpet. most of it is just sitting there not even attached, just perfectly moulded so doesn't move around.

When I did my amp install under the passenger seat I just used really short screws straight into the floor.. Obviously probably not the best way to go about it cos you don't know whats underneath. I imagine velcro would work pretty well (thinking out loud here)

Yea it's simple.. I used a straightened out coathanger to avoid moving the carpet too much. Where did you ground it to Zach?? The closest and simplest spot I could find was under the back seat.

To clarify, my speaker wire doesn't run straight under the middle... I've run it under the carpet right up against the side. My amplifier isn't secured and hasn't moved an inch.

Did you really search? There is a walkthrough in the reference material & walkthrough section of the forums! I know this because I wrote it!

He probably tried to search "amp install" but the forum search tool doesn't allow search phrases 3 letters or shorter.

Thanks guys.
Small screws will probably work.. Id say just making the screw grip into the carpet would be enough.. though I think I actually have some Velcro strips in the garage :)

Yes, I really did.
As just mentioned, you can't search the word amp. Makes things harder because no one calls it an 'amplifier'.
Thanks for the link, will help a lot.
