Yeah I do agree, I've felt it with the stockers, but the effect is less obvious with the WRX STi sedan muffs.

So if I do it I'll use Jake's stockers which I'm storing for such an occasion :P

Matt have you ever tuned any of the Subaru diesel engines? If so how did it turn out?

Interested to know if you can add some pep to the Forester 2.0D.

The Open Source Software has only recently been cracked, so other than turning off/disabling the DPF there has until recently been no major gains available. Obviously once I can invest some time into tuning the diesel, there will be some big gains to be made.

SO my up shifts tonight on the auto were smoother than they've ever been before - what may be going on behind the scenes here?

Had my tune check and revision done by Matt Friday night. On the diagnosis check, Matt confirmed that there has been zero knock or any other anomalies since the previous tune revision in March. At that point I was pretty happy as I havent had it looked at since. :D Onto the revised tune, Matt had let me know he had spent a lot of time revising and tweaking the tune even more since we last met, and he was confident I would be even happier now.

Overall, the car is probably at its best since it was first tuned. Basically Matt allowed for some extra economy without sacrificing power. The result is in S mode, its still smooth driving, but with a little more mid range torque allowing for traffic friendly driving and potentially better economy. Shifts are still super smooth.

In S# mode I get a LOT more torque earlier in the rev range. With the new tune in place, I am now getting 15psi at 2000rpm and my word, you can definitely feel it. Not only that, any form of hesitation that was residual in the acceleration is now all but gone. The car just feels way more punchier down low to mid range now but without any 'jerky' feeling, almost like another car, a very linear feeling which is what I like.   Super keen to get a full TBE and tmic in the new year now. The power is addictive. 8) 8) 8)

Will report later regarding economy improvements too.
Cheers
Shav

This makes me very happy to hear Shave!!!
Getting mine done by Matt this weekend on a basically stock car like yours.
The gains you have mentioned are exactly what i am after, more low down torque and a bit punchier in normal traffic. Fuel economy will be a bonus too but as Matt mentioned, only if i can keep my foot off the floor when pressing the go fast pedal
mod -> tune -> drive -> get bored -> repeat...

I dont think you'll be disappointed Bezzza. Just let Matt know of what you are looking for personally and he will make some finer adjustments if required on the fly. Overall, its better than I expected as I was only expecting a minor 'clean up' of the tune to smooth it out. To get the added power and potential economy is a pure bonus. The car feels a live again.

As per my email Matt, not sure what you changed in the latest tune but the car feels the best it has since I have owned it. I thought it was supposed to be just an addition of flat foot shifting and launch control but the hesitation (which was still hanging around) now appears to be totally gone in S and S#. I logged on the way home from work last night in S and boost didn't see more than 13psi yet it felt smoother and stronger. Perhaps this is what fixed the hesitation, lower boost? Leaking TMIC perhaps?

I also *reluctantly* tried launch control in S# and  I never knew my car had that in it (first time I ever have launched this lib, just did it for curiosity) and can't say I will be doing this again but for dragging this would be invaluable . I did notice that after I launched I hit a rev-limiter or fuel cut (also first time) and almost went through the windscreen :(. I guess that is where the FFS is supposed to immediately follow 8).

Sounds like you hit boost limit? (fuel cut) What gear did it happen in? Did you just forget to change from first to 2nd or something? Otherwise you might have a boost leak.

I wasn't looking at the Tacho and think I went through 1st a lot faster than expected and didn't change soon enough. That would explain it.
