Heard plenty of good first hand reviews, especially regarding wet weather performance, deep tread depth and low noise…….. something I surprised to hear considering the stiffened side walls and tread pattern.

i wouldn't classify them as low noise though

Does anyone have some comparative comments on noise and ride for these tyres?

Thanks

I am on my second set of these tyres, and they are loud compared to other performance street tyres (Pirelli, Potenza). People need to understand they are a super high performance tyre, they are made to grip and have a lot of contact to the road, the contact makes them loud. once you go over 80kmph they are quite loud in the cabin.

you also need to run these tyres at a minimum of 40psi to take full advantage of the tread and to reduce premature wear, this noticeably increases firmness of the ride even with stock suspension.

That being said... if your asking questions like whats the noise like and whats the ride like, then these aren't the tyres for you. Its like the people that complain an M3 has a harsh ride when driving on the street. well durr it is a sports car,the same concept goes with these tyres, they are basically semi slicks except they have amazing wet grip, durability(compared to semi slicks) and ridiculously precise turn in capabilities due to the steel reinforced sidewalls.

This is why things like noise and ride comfort are irrelevant constraints for these tyres, They are made for drivers who take the occasional track day and drive aggressive on the street as well, i'm lucky to get 25,000k's per set, but my dad who uses them on his HSV gets 45,000k's as he doesn't corner as hard as me during day to day driving.

Thanks Simbat. That's exactly the feedback I was looking for.

Considering the tread pattern on the ADO8R’s they seem less noisy then other semi slicks, the sound comparison were made with reference to other street legal semi slicks like the Federal 595, Ku36 and Hankook RS3. Of course they wouldn’t compare to a performance street tyre.

Do you have AD08's? because unless you do you cant say just by looking at them what they will sound like, notice how there are no thin cuts in the tread pattern of the AD08's? thats because those thin cuts are used primarily to lower road noise in other tyres like pirelli's etc ,

However those cuts in the tread lowers the the friction coefficient of the tyre because they are separating the surface of the rubber thus weakening the surface tension of the rubber which in turn lowers the threshold of grip the tyres can handle.

The AD08's are in a league of they're own, i would not compare them with the Federal 595, Ku36 and Hankook RS3. i would say that these other "road legal semi slicks" should be compared to street performance tyres as their wet and dry grip levels can not compete with that of the AD08.

I think i'll give the ad08 a go too next time seeing as I can get them for < $1000 a set (the joys of 17" rims).

Noise isn't much of an issue for me seeing as my car's other sounds drown out tyre noise, plus I run 595rsr now and have no issues with noise.

I know different setups/sizes/etc require different pressures but I definitely won't be running 40+ psi.
What kind of hot pressures do you see with a 40+ psi cold?

I know daily driving isn't going to heat them up to the extreme but I imagine since you run these tyres in the first place you give them a bit of a workout and the pressure will definitely come up from your original 40+.

I pump them to 43psi cold for day to day driving they only expand to 44-45 on a hot hot day. but on track days i pump them to 45psi front 47psi rear cold.

Those pressures sound too high to me... especially the track day pressures. From my understanding and experience you should be running lower cold pressures at the track so you will have a larger contact patch on the road. Why so high?

Wow that's high, with those track pressures you'd be running up around 60psi hot.

I would be aiming for more like 36 hot.

I usually run 36 cold on street at the present.

AD08's react a bit differently to normal tyres when it comes to pressures. Im not sure if your familiar with the differences constructionally between road tyres and track tyres but to summarise a long explanation...most track tyres (including AD08's) have a much thicker wall behind the tread which helps disperse the air pressure a lot more evenly so a higher psi is needed to achieve an oval profile. I have found 43psi cold gives me a perfectly square footprint which is perfect for road use, however on the track i run highish negative camber so to get the most out of the tyre when cornering i need a slightly oval footprint.... i hope this makes sense...

my front camber is set at -1.5degerees hence i need a slightly oval foorprint
however my rear camber is set at -2.5 degrees so i need a bit more of an oval footprint to maximise contact hence 47psi.

Also i find the psi barely rises more than 1 on hot days due to every psi over 45 requires a lot of energy to make it rise. plus i forgot to mention i only fill up with nitrogen so there is even less of a chance for psi change.

you ride bikes so you can understand how an oval footprint improves cornering when cambers are involved, if you have square footprint motorbike tyre you wouldn't be able to turn at as high speeds would you.

let me know if you need any more clarification i can pm you some diagrams. :)

WTFUDGE thats heaps high for track and daily... I put mine on 32 on track and it reaches 40+ surprised u get any traction at all with tyres that highly inflated

This setup produces a shitload of grip actually.... really 32 psi on the road? thats toyota land cruiser spec. should be minimum 36psi on the road.

as stated on track. on the road I'm always around 40psi.. this were just tips from couple of pro track drivers that were given to me when I attended a track day at Mallala which is the track we use in SA. on track around 30 and it heats up to 40ish was proven as well when I had a tyre pressure reading meter thing.

I have Bridgestone S001or 2 (cant remember) on the GT and Kuhmo KH17 on the Outback.

They both do exactly the same thing as asked with my driving style.

32 psi on a landcruiser haha nice shoulders you'll end up with, id be running 40 in a cruiser. With normal road tyres here in NT they can increase upto 8 - 10 psi just sitting in the sun thats only based on what ive personally seen id assume track days would get reasonably warmer
