I knew it could get tricky, alas the weather got the better of me and I rushed the last bit instead of taking my time.

Fortunately, for me, its almost as satisfying saying "I nearly did it my self" as it is to say "I did it my self" :P

Finally back to square one, bar an alignment, but with a recoed driveshaft and a non smelly lib. W   T
I asked the boss at A1, "Why? I like to be as self sufficient as possible..."
The answer: "Special tools"
Point taken.

This weekend I got my KAP bracket and extinguisher installed...
Finally put a T10 led in opposite my reverse camera so the colour temp of my number plate LEDs match...
And briefly went in my first show n shine at the WRX Club day at Como Park...
Thanks to Bruce for the invite and Kurt and Kristian for the encouragement :)
Image
Chatting to budgie smugglers with my lib in the distant BG :)

Currently I'm:
Researching my next tyre and alignment choices, inspired by Jays way low setup.
Planning UEC and oil change.
Getting close to completeing the gauges on stock nav screen project, which means getting right into using the Tasker app to automate apps and power management etc.
Having had only an iPhone for the last 2 years, the Samsung i9000 updated with cyanogen is an amazing experience given it's age. Loving learning new stuff and there's so much on offer with Android. Thanks Jakey for the encouragement :)

I'm taking some paid leave soon so I'm hoping to use some of that time to:
Install 3port and new Kido tune.
Correct paint.
Install tmic smart waterspray.
Wrap dump pipe to protect inner CV boot.
Do those fiberglassing jobs...

So the Tourque gauges on Nav Screen project is going great, the effort is certainly worthwhile.

I just need to get Tasker sorted to automate the device management so the i9000 can be left out of sight in the center console. Touch input may even be possible through the gear stick boot.
So I need to work out exactly what actions I need to be executed and then I can research the method.

Power management: let's assume the i9000 lives in the car, so it's got to sleep or go into power saving mode when the car is turned off... And turn on when the car is started...
So triggers could include power from the 12v USB cable, the BT signal from the Obd plug...

Display: switch on TV Out in Advanced Settings. Since TV out brightness is independent of the device, I9000 screen on minimum brightness and always on (unless ign off), screen locked to horizontal mode.

Apps/Launcher: Initially start the device in Torque dashboard, with the option of developing a car specific launcher later.
The screen res of the stock nav is very basic so unless the i9000 tv out can be downressed it's potential for displaying anything other than medium and large Torque gauges is limited.

Finally I plan to have a go at creating lib specific pids and gauges to match the style of dash cluster. :)

It's enough for me though just to get corrected speedo, boost, fuelling and temps gauges etc in a very integrated way with minimal visual impact on the cars interior.

As for powering the phone, I'd recommend reading the in dash nexus 7 thread as there is a link to a power supply of sorts - sounds like a good idea.

Yeah I'm going through all Tasker related threads here and elsewhere looking for tips and methodologies.
If I'm still struggling I'll be pming the high rollers for some next level nerdology ;)

The adage about "improving" your car with modifications opening a Pandoras Box of mischief rings true: for months I've been irritated by an intermittent reed like buzz emanating from the center dash vents, removing the vents, stuffing with acoustic wool, removing, damping and fiddling to no avail.
Using an iPhone frequency generator revealed nil as did driving with the vents out.

Eventually I JFGI and found some posts on LGT about the fuel lines rubbing on the LHS strut tower.
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... tml?t=5684
So looking in the area I noticed I'd shaved back as little as possible of the engine cover in order to clear the STi Genome strut brace. I packed some foam in between as well as on the engine cover mounts and... No more reedy buzz! 8)

Next up is tackling the noisy HVAC doors
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... 728p4.html

Via that post I managed to track down the Opposed Forces listing for the RHD postFL GT-B 6mt wagon:
http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/en_b13/type_94/

I'm hoping accessing the hvac motor is as easy as it is for the LHD models :)
I just need to source giant wood handled Q-tips and grease that's appropriate for plastics.

Thanks for this Benny. A really good find!

What sort of foam did you use/source?

Cheers

Clark Rubber have heaps of types with and w/o sticky.
So I just stock up on different types and densities.

But heat resistant types will be safer and last longer.
The LGT fuel hose buzz fix uses 3/8 oil or heater hose iirc.

After another drive the buzz returned faintly so I'm experimenting with damping the whole engine cover as it rattles when tapped

Just another feature of a higher K car I guess :)

What have you decided regarding this?

You might be interested to know that after installing the anti lift kit and adding a fair bit of caster, the front wheels had barely any clearance at the height it was at, so i lifted it up 15mm and its perfect now, no scrubbing at all and its still quite low.

Your wagon would look crazy just that little bit lower

Awesome! Keep us posted...
I'm looking for those giant wood handled q-tips and plastic friendly grease - plumbing grease maybe?

I changed my clutch back in March and now I have a buzz from the intake plenum when in 2nd gear from 1500-2000 RPM. That, cannot be fixed with rubber. Awesome... :(

Nice ride. Most people give up and ask others to fix their problems or just 'upgrade'. Few people actually make time and take the effort to get things right. Respect.

Cheers!

A few things done:

Did the 3 x 2" heater hose on fuel lines near the LHS firewall, insulated the wideband lead with some flex conduit, zip tied some random looms to prevent rubbing, added more foam to prevent all engine bay covers from rattling...

It's working! No buzzing :)

The 6mt lost some oil when I broke the seal replacing the driveshaft so I bought 1L Syntrax (it's a Docklands STi serviced car, thanks Gino for the info) and 2 x $1 SCA flex funnels and added 500ml :)
In my case, 500ml is the difference between the low and high marks.

I removed and lubed the heater vent motor but alas not a total fix, it still murmurs a little after key off.
Maybe there's another motor on the drivers side?
Could that be a normal behavior?
Perhaps I'll look into any HVAC self diagnostic modes...

And I finally installed the Filtermag from the recent OzFoz GB, on my recently changed OEM filter.
Just another inexpensive, peace of mind (snake oil) mod I find irresistible ;)
