Alpine type R system review

Postby turbolag » Sun Nov 03, 2013 9:57 pm

Hey guys,

Just thought i'd share my experiences with the recent install of an alpine type r system. The system consisted of....

- SPR 60c in the front

- SPR 60 in the rear

- PDX F6

- IVE-W530ABTi

so i did the install myself and it was fairly straight forward however time consuming to do it right.

Now for my review.

The sounds quality is for the most part great, it doesn't distort when up extremely loud and the vocals are clear and precise how ever there is a notable lack of depth in the sound of the instrumentals when compared with the stock system. After only a week of use (i must admit most of that was up very loud) i have noticed a distinct crackling coming from the front left 6 1/2 when up loud during any song with a lot of bass..... so overall i guess if i had to do it again i would invest in type x's for the front doors and hope that would fix the issue with the vocals drowning out the instrumentals. If anyone has any other suggestions of what else i could try to correct the issue i would be interested to hear it.

I use R-types in the front doors (Gen 3), and the left developed a "crackle". Turned out one of the screws holding it in had worked loose. Might want to check it.

Not sure what the problem is with your lack of depth, mine seem fine, but I've got an old school alpine amp. Have you tuned the gains properly?

Yeah I pulled it all out and put it back together and it seemed fine for a while so maybe the screws where a factor, however it is starting again so I might have to check it out properly. I think my depth is pretty good and gains are tuned.

Nice write up,
Do the steering wheel controls work with this unit ?
What harness did you purchase to complete the install ?

Cheers,

not sure about steering wheel controls as I don't have them and I dint use a harness I just and joined the old one to the alpine one, pretty straight forward no surprises just need an adapter for the aerial.
