Reverse power feed at gearbox/fuse panel

Hi everyone,

Anyone know where/how I can tap into the reverse light circuit at either the gearbox (auto) or the fuse box?

I just installed a wireless parking camera which displays the image on a 4" lcd screen on the rearview mirror - very cool! The camera draws power from reversing light, and wirelessly connects to display in cabin, which saves running cable the length of the car. It works perfectly, but the downside is I need a power feed at the cabin end too. I've currently got both lcd display and the wireless receiver in the cabin running from a continuous feed, and the receiver appears to run very hot so can't leave it like that. There were no instructions with device (eBay special form Hong Kong!), but I'm guessing that whilst the screen is ok on continuous feed (as it only powers up when it senses a signal input), the wireless sensor itself is probably supposed to draw power from the reverse light circuit.

I've exposed the wiring under the auto gear stick, and know there must be a feed in there somewhere - if I disconnect one of the plugs, the car will no longer allow me to engage reverse. But my bloody multimeter is on the blink, so I'm flying blind and reluctant to randomly cut wires!!

You're best off getting it from the OP connector that's used the optional factory satnav. Do a bit of googleing for its location

Thanks mate, but my research suggests the op was only installed in 05 models? Mine is 08 GT spec.B (auto 2.5t wagon).

I'm certain the easiest way is near the gearbox, but buggered if I can find wiring diagram!

I've got an 04 and people have found them on 08s. It's stuck either behind the interior relay box (if you're lucky) or the interior fuse box (more common) Doesn't take long to check though

Will have a look, thanks. Say I find it though...then what?! Anyone know how to identify wires, because again, my research found nothing even when people could find the OP, they couldn't identify wires. They could only find Japanese versions of the wiring diagram!

Well because I'm dedicated I hunted it down for you.

Here's the connector in reference to the reverse circuit. It's pin no. 6 on connector B228 with reference to the drawing below it.



Here's where the OP connector(B228) is in reference with the dash wiring harness:



Just for a little bit of extra information here's the pinout for the OP Connector (in english) It's got quite a lot of useful pins on it! You're after a BrY (brown/yellow) coloured wire

I used the reverse light wire travelling down the drivers side side skirt as a trigger wire for mine. Pretty easy to find on the wiring diagrams and get to.

And I actually like the Subaru wiring diagrams, compared to other makes I've seen the Subaru ones are fantastic!
