MY08 speaker upgrade - Need help!!

Postby Dreww » Wed Sep 25, 2013 2:55 pm

Coming from someone with absolutely no knowledge on car audio. I've recently purchased a DD Fasia and HU, now all that's left are the door speakers and sub. What size speaker fit in the door, and could anyone reccommend a suitable brand? The 4 x 50 W outputs from the HU should be ample power for the four doors. I was also wanting some advice on a sub for the boot (preferably including enclosure) and amp for that. Budget is around $1500 give or take for the 4 door speakers, sub for the boot and amp. Thanks in advance!!

Forget rear speakers.

Spend more money on front speakers and enjoy them more.

I've got a set of Hertz HSK-165's that I'm selling. However they are rated at 125W RMS. Not sure exactly how good they will sound off the headunit, but off an amp they sounded quite good.

Where abouts are you located? May be able to send you to a few specialist retailers (not JB Hi-fi's or Autobarns).

You can get the alpine pdx-v9 5 channel amp for around $650, which is a decent amp that will power your fronts and sub pretty nicely.
Moving to 2 separate amps generally means more $$$ plus the pdx will fit under the front seat.

Couple of hundred on a sub plus a bit for a box leaves you still a decent amount for good splits.

If you have to pay for install, sound deadening, a custom sub box, or anything like that out of your 1500 it will eat into your budget a bit.

Sound deaden the front doors. With good front speakers you may get away without having to install an amp and a sub. You'll find that a lot of bass is cancelled from road noise and you'll be relying on amplification of the lower frequencies to overcome this. If you can minimise the road noise that invades the cabin, then you'll get a purer sound and get more value from your speakers.

Don't forget that you will need spacers for these upfront speakers. With the left over money, consider a quality four-channel amp. You could always run a quality sub down the track with two of the channels bridged.

My two cents.
