well as the title states i have gone down the path of installing an ipad mini in what was my cubby hole slot.
a fair few people have done this now with the nexus 7 inch tablet. This was going to be my choice but i had an ipad mini lying around pretty much brand new so thought i would go down that path just for something a little bit different.
There isnt much point in doing a walk through as i didnt really take my photos but i will give some details below.
Facia - From Japan Parts (same as the one used for nexus)
This facia was then modified to be able to hold and display the ipad mini. this involved widening the opening to 120mm from around 105-110 not sure of exact dimensions. (a dremel comes in very handy for this with all its attachments) I then put the rolled lip and moulded corners back on the bottom edge with some plastic heating/welding and bogging sanding and painting so that it was back to a more factory look.
Power and playback
This is achieved by running the ipad mini through my alpine double din head unit and charging though a volatage convertor that alpine sell (apparently this may or may not work for some devices according to my dealer)
I went for this playback option rather then AUX or bluetooth because it is a much clearer better quality sound and if i for some reason do need to i can select songs on my headunit as well
Scan tool
Im running your standard ebay OBD-11 scan tool with the Dash Commander App. does everything i need it to do can read and clear codes and im not in it for performance as such. This is connected via the WIFI on the ipad mini.
Other Stuff
Am using the TOM TOM app for maps havent tried the new Apple maps since the iOS7 upgrade but will have a look at it at some stage as the ipad has 3G/4G which allows the passenger or myself to scroll the internet or do anything else they may need to do. ( i did some internet banking while sitting in traffic today)
there isnt much else i can think of right now but if you have an questions or feedback feel free to leave / ask
