Just spent the last 30 minutes reading your entire thread looking for ideas since I have the same car as you. Very interesting journey.

Congratulations on getting your licence!

Celebratory helis would be in order but my 2.5i couldn't do them unless it's wet ;)

Zac is a damn good driver haha, I have to say.
I will do my best to live up to the rep he gave my car. I know the cars power band better and I could drive it faster in a straight line (home car advantage) but Zac has circuit experience - the bastard haha.

Just stock sagging Subaru suspension at the moment haha. If I end up keeping it I will buy some coilovers but I'm not too sure what I'll be doing at the moment.

So I was hoping to get some advice off our forum members.

Having had my P's for a whole two months now, and having had the car for just over a year, I am getting itchy feet and want a change. A friend of mine (QLD members may remember Zac who drove my car when I was on my L's on a cruise and leaving you all behind ) has had a V35 Skyline for a few months now and since driving it 3 months ago I have pretty much decided I want to upgrade. The 2.5i is a great car, but it doesn't feel special to drive if that makes sense. I want something that is an occasion to drive; something that's special :P Next year I will have a much greater income and with current savings I would upgrade mid-late next year.

I've spoken to a bunch of friends, those who have upgraded on their P's to a more performance orientated car, and those who kept their car. Funnily enough, those who upgraded have mainly told me not too, those who haven't told me they regret not doing it (or not doing it earlier if they did it later).

Basically my options are:

2003-4 Nissan Skyline V35: Import, Brembos, 6 speed, 3.5 V6
03-04 Nissan 350Z Track: Same as above
Lib H6: 6 speed...
Pre-facelift Lib GT: Booooosst
Or keeping my car and making one nice ass NA.

Basically, one of my main motivators is the car has ticked over 160,000km. Whilst it's been looked after immaculately both before and during I've owned it, that's still high k's... I know a lot of people will think my choices are overpowered for a P plater, and that's probably fair enough. That being said, I had the V35 left to me one weekend when my buddy borrowed my car, and found it just as docile to drive around town as my car (that being said, not being my car I didn't drive it hard). Learning to drive in a WRX, I respect performance cars and can legitimately say I would drive my NA harder as it bores me sometimes - there's none of that healthy fear a performance orientated car gives :P

I know a few Club Lib members have upgraded, and we have some older, wiser members. Advice please? :D

I may not be a wiser/older member being a P-Plater, but if I was you I'd go with the Lib H6, mainly as I have one myself and also because, correct me if I'm wrong, the rest of your options are P-Plate prohibited? I don't know about the rules in QLD, but here in NSW the V35 and 350Z are both labelled as high performance vehicles, and the GT would be prohibited as it's turbocharged.

The GT is prohibited, the 350Z and V35 aren't. Plus I now have an exemption for under 125kw/tonne which in QLD means the GT falls smack bang on the limit :D

I the RMS 'prohibited vehicles list' incredibly moronic..

Volkswagen Caddy turbo pushing out 63kw is a prohibited vehicle, yet a Passat R36 has 220kw (nearly 4 times the power) and is completely P plate legal.....

I can't find the V35 or the 350Z on the prohibited list.

Kody, I think jumping into a turbo without that many years' worth of driving experience under your belt may not be the best choice, regardless of your driving ability (no offence intended).

It's funny; I look back when I was on my Ps and thought I was a Formula 1 driver (in my little 2L Laguna hatch ) but now I look back and think how lucky I was that I didn't get into a prang etc from my constant speeding etc :? And this was just driving a 103kW 2L! If I was in a GT I think I would've wrapped myself around a pole  I've tamed down quite considerably and I now I can honestly look at myself and know where my driving skills are deficient etc.

IMO, I think it's best to move up incrementally in power, so I'd be looking at a manual H6 next :) once you're familiar/comfortable with that and do all the mods etc, then you can move onto a turbo (where it will be far easier to make silly power    )

I'd go for a H6 Lib, few mods and a tune and its easily got the power you are after. Also Subies are a lot harder to wrap around trees than high powered RWD cars, something to think about too

On a side note, I've just bought the same Pioneer HU as you. I was all set to buy the model above it with the 7" screen, until I found out it doesn't have DAB.... wtf?
Any problems or annoying things with the 3500DAB?
