At the moment it to enjoy the stock setup as we need to buy another ( bigger ) house in 12-18mths time.

I don't want to rebuild again.... As I won't get a second chance . So if I spent the little amount 3-5k on head gasket etc. that's it..... In 2 yrs time if it shits itself or I want a bigger turbo etc .... I cant. If it shits itself it will be flogged , can almost guarantee that.!!

I would love to have about the 300 kw atw.... If its 290... Meehhh that's fine!!

It's also that in the next say 3-5 yrs the car might become my weekender and ill drive a hilux daily .

So I'm wanting a strong motor now so that I can be completely confident with it and its setup currently and then for it to be also available to have a nice gtx3076 or gtx3576 bolted on with all the fruit down the track.!!

My question is , should I go some bigger cams and spring or some thing ?? Budgets not really there tho, cause of the block.!!

I like those tips. They are huge... maybe too big for a sedan... They'd look great on my wagons fat ass though *hint*

Suggest these:

http://www.kelford.co.nz/product-release-kvs109-sti-pacaloy-valve-springs-for-subaru

http://www.camshaftshop.com/products.php?productid=1035

Drop in and go I understand. Best to check lobe clears all head parts first though......

Obviously forged rods n pistons too.

Peeps will pull me up if more suitable items are known...

Just my opinion, but if it was me with your budget I would be going for a safe-ish 250 instead of a riskier 300.

I would go for 300+ if I had a lot more to spend.

Leave the heads and for that matter cams. 290Kw on stock heads is achievable with the right sized turbo and good head studs. Blouch 3 or 3.5 on stock EJ255 heads can do it ;) Those cam gears I mentioned? They keep the exhaust valve shut for longer, getting more energy out of the power stroke of the piston from keep the energy pushing down the piston for longer before the exhaust valve opens and releases the pressure.

Yeh i thought the heads were ok...!!

I think i will get those gears and then just leave em at 0 with the stock setup as 5/6 degrees retarted exhaust will odd with the stock turbo yeh??

Yeah, good investment but stock turbo does have energy potential being wasted. Put it this way, VF48 on a 2008+ STi has 5 degrees exhaust retard on boost.

So should I just set it at 5 degrees and leave it?? Or is it better at another number from your experience ???

I would go 5 degrees retard and enjoy the extra torque. I love mine on my Forester and even on the TD04 it went well with the cam retard ;) GenV LGT has exhaust retard as well with a VF54 :)

I know that giving it 5 Degrees retard will require a tune. But is it a case of set at 5 when motor is built and try and tune it on a fresh engine?? And is it a set and then just road tune, or a fuck around on a dyno etc etc.

Or should i set it a 0 when its built and then once the engines run in then go back and set it at 5 and retune.... which needs to happen anyway.!!

Set it at 5, the existing tune will be fine to run the engine in and most likely give better ring sealing. For example, the EVO X MR's run -10 exhaust retard on boost during engine run in period but run -5 once the ECU calculates 5000Km's has been done. Difference in power on the MR between 0 degrees and -5 degrees(with corresponding inlet cam change(30 then 25) was 8Kw. The Dual AVCS Subaru motors show similar differences with 5 degrees at peak power. That said, it is simple enough to drop the cam timing belt covers to adjust as required

Putting your rod into another man's bottom end...
Should be a bit tight, use plenty of lube.
Don't go hard too early, otherwise your risk blowing.
