Introduce yourself

New Liberty Lover

Postby LibertyJackkk » Wed Sep 11, 2013 9:20 pm

Hey guys.

Just thought I'd introduce myself to your fine club.

My name is Jack and I'm a recent liberty owner. I bought my 2011 Liberty Sports Premium back in June. I immediately fell in love with the car and finally understood why people become so attached to subarus.

As for my car history, I'm only 20 so it's pretty short. In fact, the liberty is only my second car, the first being a 2012 Ford Falcon XR6 with luxury pack.

I can't wait to get to know some fellow liberty owners and hopefully learn some things from those with more experience.

Thanks :D

Thanks for that, I'll have a look and see if I can make it. Are there many Gen 5 meets?

We had this one a while ago (back in March) - good turnout
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=20159&start=60#p302049

The next one is on 29th September (as Eric highlighted) - It wont be a "GenV specific" meet (despite the title), as I think its good for all-gens to meet and share ideas.

My original intent to callout GenV specifically was to get enough owners interested and attending - most of the other forum members are pretty cool folks (despite the GenV bearing the brunt of repeat old stale jokes), and I've learnt from experience that they are a great way to meet and share ideas/laughs/stories with other members (all gens, not just genV).

Yeah it certainly sounds good, thanks.

Now you mention it, having browsed the site I have noticed alot of jokes being directed towards the GenV. As I'm only new to Liberty ownership I was wondering why this is? Have I missed something? Are GenV cars seen as inferior or something? lol. I always thought they were amazing machines and jumped at the chance to get mine...

In the main, the GenV joke are just harmless banter - definitely nothing to get worried about!

The GenV clearly has some "toyota design" elements, since toyota bought a share of Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru). The other aspect is that it has also been "americanised" to some degree (ie. definitely bigger and more roomier interior than the previous Gen4), so to some, it doesnt look as sleek as the Gen4. While the "purists" could say otherwise, at the end of the day Subaru is a business, and a business has to make money to survive. This could include incorporating design elements that interest and attract as many buyers as possible.

At the end of the day, its what you should be happy with thats most important .... I personally don't give a sh1t what other people say about the GenV, as I'm happy with my car, particularly with the mods/changes you research and implement along the way to make it ride, handle, or drive better (if thats your thing).

Welcome Jack!

Great explanation Simon - nothing wrong with a Gen V, and I say that as a previous Gen 4 owner too. :D

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense. Though I really fail to see any similarities between a GenV and any of the Japanese or Korean white goods on wheels but I do admit it is a departure from the GenIV. I guess there is always some resistance to change :P I must admit I do not like the Americanised front clip of the GenV after the latest facelift so clearly these things are subjective lol.

Here's hoping subaru doesn't sell out and become just another Toyota wannabe though some signs suggest that's where they're headed, especially if the two most recent impreza generations are anything to go by. Lets all pray that the new WRX is a return to form.
