Gen 4 Door Panels / New speakers

Postby Jayraddd » Fri Sep 13, 2013 9:38 am

Heya.
Did a quick search and couldn't find my answer.
I want to remove the front door panels to swap out the speakers.
Just wondering if there is any important tips/advice for me to prevent anything breaking ? like clips or wires..
Thanks :)

Don't use screwdrivers though, get yourself a trim removal kit. Once the door panel is away from the door make sure you disconnect the courtesy light & power window looms.

There is 4 screws holding the door opener assembly (if that's what it's called) on to the panel, 3 that are visible and 1 under the removable flap that exposes the cabling inside.

Ok, so got the door panel off pretty easy with help from those instructions ^^
Plus side, nothing broke :)
But when I was checking out the stock speaker I see that the speaker wires go into a little plug then plug into the speaker.. unlike normal car speakers were there is the small and large flat tabs you connect to one another for pos and neg.
Question is can I just cut the stock plug off then add a new plug to each wire to connect to my aftermarket speakers ?
I don't see why I couldn't, thought I should check though.

Most cars have some sort of loom to connect to the wiring of the stock speakers. Cut off the standard connector but keep it somewhere safe so you can solder it back on if ever you go back to stock. Strip the ends of the wires and solder to the tabs of the aftermarket speakers, or do what I did and use female spade terminals.
