Looks fine to me Michael

What boost controller are you using?

If its an evc (electronic boost controller) then i would turn the boost down from whatever it was tuned for

Ie - if tuned for 21 psi set it to 17/18 and you *should* be ok, as you will run richer and have less sustained cyclinder pressure

I'm tuned for 27 psi but will be running 23-24 at Wakefield, with the occasional increase to 27 for shits and giggles

Thanks Mick. Don't have a boost controller at the moment... but Insight Motorsport tuned it to 17 psi (which I thought should be pretty safe), and I've been monitoring it with the Torque app on my phone (hasn't gone over 17).

If you have SI drive you can get a lower boost setup technically by putting it in either S or I mode.

Off course this is all dependent on how your tune is setup.

Hi all

An update to mine.

I cleaned out the expansion tank today and added new coolant. I'm now thinking the black bits were sections of the inlet hose which have scraped off, as when I tried to clean it there were a few rubber fragments which came off in my fingers like a pencil eraser.
Here are pics after driving the car about 20kms / 30 mins. No new crap appears to have pumped through at this point, and driving today (25c in Melb) I pushed it a bit in S# and the temp (according to the OBD adaptor / Torque) didn't go above 94c - typically hovering between 85 - 90c, which I believe is normal, although I'll continue to monitor closely.

Will be very happy if it's not oil / cracked HG!! :D

Sounds better but You said the service is due soon right? I would try and get it done sooner + a pressure test.

How does the underneath of the oil cap look? Any strange particles? (edit: not sure if this has been covered or not - going to have a quick read of thread)

Yeah, it's on 68,xxxkms. I think the service is due at 72,500 and I'll get done in the next 2-4 weeks, including full flush of cooling system.

Oil cap looks fine - not milky or dried out [don't think this has been discussed]

Found it - the guy at Cromwood said the oil looks fine. Good luck with everything mate! Mine is going in to Cromwood tomorrow and I am praying that whatever problem I am having with my temps is an easy fix. I still haven't been able to get a snapshot of my tune so I have no idea if that's a factor.

UPDATE:
Car passed a 2 hour pressure test at Cromwood today, the only thing they found was a slightly loose hose clamp at bottom of radiator. I am starting to get confused because it's almost as if my issues from last week have vanished. Their advice is to run the car hard again (as I haven't since I noticed any issues) and to see if the problems re occur. A glimmer of hope maybe?

Will pick up the car tomorrow and see what happens... :-? I am extremely skeptical because I don't understand how what seemed like a major problem can just appear and disappear within a matter of weeks.

I am yet to have a tuned EZ30R ever pop a head gasket(except in one case where owner knew it was on its way out) I lower the Coolant Temps that the radiator fans activate at, which means more heat can be transferred from the combustion chamber to the coolant. Subaru set higher temps for emissions :)

Yay got my car back today, nearly shit myself at the price tag attached. But the excitement I had let me put that to the side for now. Nick showed me a lot of the parts replaced, the radiator had a cracked connection at the top. The belts started to fray. Lots of little pieces of rubber that had turned rock hard. I'll stop by next week again so he can have a check over everything, I'll be keeping a nice close eye on things and be very anal.

Time to put my stickers all over it!!!

Well done Tom,

I got my car back this morning and went for a 20 minute drive which seemed fine so I followed it up with a slightly more spirited drive, also 20 mins.
Just as I thought everything was fine I looked down at the traffic lights and saw the needle rising up, sheeiiiiiit.
Took it back to Ross and he had a look with some thermometers, etc, now he thinks it may be the water pump or the thermostat. Hopefully more news by this evening. He still doubts it's the head gasket so this is tbe glimmer of hope I am holding on to.

That would be my thoughts too. Thermostat failure is common coming out of winter
