Think we might need one.

OP should have links to build threads and guides.

We could start a new thread and anyone who has installed one can write up parts used with links on where to get them, software used for audio playback, navigation etc.. What works well, what doesn't work so well, what someone could do to improve on it, custom ROMs etc

Might be handy.

Very interested to see some finished products and notes on installation
Seems like a very clean finish with lots of customization...
Start a Thread indeed... 8)

Will start one up and ask Ric to sticky it in the Audio section.. I'll do it next week when mine goes in.

My In-Dash Nexus 7 Project

On turnover most of the battery's power is drawn to the starter to crank the engine over and ignite, I'm led to understand that the DCDC will provide an uninterrupted supply.

As for the eBay version, I too wondered this. I am embarking on the tablet install and $100 for the power supply is definitely harsh! Guinea pig the cheaper version for us??

I would've guinea pigged but seems pgardiye beat me to it!
I am going to give this cheapie a try.

Pgardiye - can you confirm you have no issues with power loss during ignition?

Guys, just an update at my end. I have given the eBay power supply a try. Just installed it. What I have done to safeguard against power loss to the DAC during ignition crank, is to install a small switch in the dash just where my right knee would be when in the drivers seat. Planning to leave it always on, but in case I have issues, I can just turn the nexus 7 off and back on again without having to turn the car off and on. $6 has done the job (switch was lying around - didn't need to buy).

Velcro taped the power supply to a piece of metal near where the fuses are

You can see the little black switch under the parking brake sticker.

So I've worked on my home screen so far, still waiting on a few more bits & pieces to start the actual installation.

A little bit busy, possibly but I like it. Still some more fiddling to do.

So made some progress this afternoon on the install.

Got the Nexus mounted up on the fascia kit. I used a hard back cover, some L brackets and 2 part epoxy. 2 holes drilled in to each air conditioning ducts saw it held quite well just using small screws and bolts.
Image

I then worked on moving the I/O assembly from the base of the Nexus to the back as there is not enough room to connect the OTG cable. This was done by removing the back cover & battery, prying up the copper battery shield and straightening out the ribbon cable across to the opposite side of the tablet. I then cut a hole in the back cover and hard case and mounted the I/O assembly in a junction box which I gutted using a dremel. More 2 part epoxy on the hard case and done!

To tidy things up and take the strain off the connection of the OTG to the USB port I simply used a cable to tie to secure it in place. Will probably use another cable tie to secure the OTG cable to the hard cover as well.

I actually won my Nexus and posted it to Statts for flashing, so minus that..

$300 for JDM fascia (inc postage)
$200 for info relocation kit (inc postage) which I actually have up for sale as I was sent the wrong item
$215 DCDC-USB, 4 port hub, Behringer UCA-202, 30cm RCA cable, USB extension for power, OTG Y cable
$70 for 500gb HDD
Approx $30 for brackets, araldite, Nexus hard cover, junction box.

It's also handy to have some additional wire on hand, heatshrink, solder and soldering iron, various terminals (ring/spade) etc etc

Finally got my installation finished the other weekend, just the usual installation except for moving the power cords to the rear of the device. Working well so far, thanks for the inspiration / help.
