That or you start getting down on all 4 to pay for it.
OR buy a beater for 4k and very slowly fix the STI....
OR sell the S Edition for a territory and use the left over to mod the lib

Surprise surprise ..
Blown head gasket .
The compression is good, only slightly down on cylinder 2 ( probably where the gasket is blown ) by about 8%. Which. I'm told is normal range.!
So what to do now?? Been given the go ahead to spend $3-3.5k..... Wonder what can be done!!
There is a motor at my mechanics that has done a bottom end.
So maybe swap my motor ( money / value wise ) for that and fix that one up ??
Or maybe need to call rising sun or what ever its called.!!
Suggestions.!!
And money wise , I MAY be stretched depending in the value of it???
So fire away boys / gals ( ie RICCO )
I'd be inclined to trade it in as per your earlier thoughts.
I think your budget is tight and if you can't absorb the extras that my be required, then don't commence, as you'll end up with a incomplete job.
From reading previous posts, I see you've got competing interests for your time and financies in family, kids, house purchasing etc.
Following the rebuild you'll still need to work out what happened with your tune or prepare to go back to the factory tune without mods till you sort it out. Are you prepared for that?
On a stock bottom end you need to be able to tweak your tune yourself and be able to manage it. It's a little bit time consuming both gaining the knowledge and then applying it.
BTW this is just IMHO..

He Could do that but don't you think that's a bit slack for a new owner ?
Never know the new owner might come join this forum and then tell of his/hers miss four tune..
My opinion

No, it becomes the dealers problem under their warranty period. So the new owner shouldn't be liable for it.
Newbie GT wrote:Bruce is it really all that nessary to monitor the tune etc and tweak it if the tunes have been done by experts like kido or msr?

Yes it is absolutely.
There is even a need to monitor the stock tune from what I've researched here and elsewhere.
But you chose to sidestep the mfg's stock tune, the one they spent millions developing for all users.
A turbocharged car is by definition more stressed than an NA car.
The K's are mounting as is the wear and tear. Well out of warranty. Diy installed geegaws too boot! Pestering the tuner for more more more of everything!
Your car was street tuned in less than an hour with no AFR probe or had perhaps a few hours on the dyno, so tell me: how do you know the tune is 100% safe in all conditions?
Did you get some sort of warranty with it?
But go ahead keep your head in the sand and enjoy your max power, no headroom tune till it lasts.
No disrespect to our awesome (mostly) tuners, but it takes 2 at least to tango here...
bigBADbenny wrote:Well it's more keeping an eye on the basics such as boost, afr and the ability to do a learning view or log once in a while.
It doesn't really impinge on the driving experience and you may even LEARN some aspects of your cars operations. Maybe...

I'm a bit disheartened at the lack of confidence with me rebuilding it for 3.5k!!
Thinking of 'maybe' just dropping in a proper Sti motor !! Ie DR20T style sorta
Any thoughts on what one??
