AVCS VVT angle out of sync diagnosis MY07 GT B

*watching this topic* - Just bought a MY08 GT B... might have to suss out if I have the AVCS issue before the 3 month statutory warranty is up...

Is logging pretty much the only way to figure it out?

Borrow or buy an ECUdatsascan or use a BT or wifi OBDII dongle and log or watch a real time plot of VVT angles using your smartphone and Torque app.

Or any mechanic with a scan tool: log VVT angles at 1500, 2000 and 3000 RPM.

Either way if there is significant left to right side lag or any oscillation you want to clean or preferably replace the OCV's.

Ok guys so just got my car back, cam gears, solenoids, oil lines cleaned/checked, timing belt and tensioner changed, injectors cleaned.

i can still feel a slight shake through the seats at idle. Still has a noticeable ticking noise from the passenger side wheel well like from the heads, strangest things is i feel boost coming on much slower in second gear randomly! Not sure if these is just how the car is? No error codes or nothing. I might get a bluetooth scanner and use an iphone app to log vvt angles, any other suggestions?

Most annoying thing is the ticking noise at idle, seems louder on the passenger side. Funniest thing is it doesnt tick on a cold start. Gets louder the hotter it gets. Dont think it is shims as the noise would be there when cold. Subaru say everything is normal but im just not willing to believe it is.

During a cold start car shakes as it warms up and once fully warmed up i only get a very slight shake, most shaking at 1200rpm as its warming up.

Does anyone have these symptoms? Or should i stop worrying and just drive it.

Does it change depending on which SI Drive mode you are in?

Does it change depending on which SI Drive mode you are in?

This interests me Matt, since I've noticed in [I] mode some slight vibration around the 2000 rpm mark. Often on light throttle when the car is under moderate load. Mines an auto, so guessing I'd be in high gear. Would this exacerbate or show up this AVCS issue? Can you elaborate on your question?

Just having a play around with my ECUdataScan...

VVT angle right/left logging - looks fairly accurate, but there's a couple of spots where the left peaks a lot higher (just briefly) - is that an indication that I need to have one of the sensors replaced? Or is it normal that on a good car there will be slight differences?

That looks fine.
Log it at freeway speed in 4th 5th 6th one minute each.
If it holds even you're good.

Did some more logging. Don't seem to have any physical symptoms as such, but noticed some oscillating in the logs on the right hand side VVT angle ...

Should log L and R Vs RPM....but that doesnt look good....they should be in sync..get it checked out...

I would replace both then just one side...

It will look like this as the Right Hand Side Oil Control Valve tries to correct itself(3rd graph Vs 4th graph)
