Screech and Squeak

Postby doubleu » Sat Jul 27, 2013 12:53 pm

Cold Canberra morning startup...
Bought the car a couple of weeks ago. On most cold starts it does that screechy thing but it has never been that obvious. I'm guessing that is not normal? It does not seem to happen when the engine is warm though.
And I only just noticed the squeaky noise from the engine today...

I hope it is nothing serious? :(

Is it only just as it starts and last only a second or two

Just sounds like a belt to me (alternator, PS, AC, etc). Check if it needs replacing or tightening. Otherwise a bit of candle wax on the inside of the belt will quieten it down :)

My car makes the same screech when I start it and it's quite cold. I think it's the starter and from what I hear it's pretty normal. Not sure about the squeak though but sounds belt or idler related.

I'd change the belt and the 2 bearings (idler & tensioner).
