Reverse Camera Mount (Wagon)

Postby NDJ93 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 2:02 pm

I'm keen on installing a reverse camera on my wagon to make reversing easier at night due to the dark tint. After searching the forums I noticed there was a good walkthrough done by Digital for a sedan. My main questions for this install is how did people mount the camera in the blank spots next to the licence plate lights and what sort of camera was used? I am wondering how I will be able to route the wires next to the licence plate light and not have water entering the hollow boot section.

Cheers Ben, I'm in the process of doing mine now, but had to stop when it didn't work. I suspect it to be the rear view mirror display that is giving me the grief. Got to love fault finding!

I might even try take some pictures and write a breif walk through for any other wagon folk wishing to do this install.

Wait, I just properly read your post in the link you gave me and my mistake could also be me tapping into the negative cable on the reverse light plug (wish me luck tomorrow). Also in general, what are your thoughts on wire taps as I've never used them before - always solder. I have read some nasty things on the Internet about them and have now gotten paranoid. As I have only got four connections to be made in total am I better of going back to my old method?

Don't bother with wire taps as they inevitably fail.
I soldered and also used a terminal block with wires with soldered ends.

Yeah best to use a multimeter to keep track of your polarity.

Yep, definitely went back to solder today after inspecting the wire taps. As annoying and difficult it can sometimes be in awkward positions solder has not yet failed me!

Great and just drill and rivet the camera into the plastic trim adjacent the number plate lights if using cam with hinged base... I used the number plate light replacement type cam... :)

Haha I can't believe I came across your post about the camera that mounts where the number plate light mounts the other day. I originally bought one but it turned out to be one that only fitted the fifth gen liberty.

On a separate note, would you be able to send me a picture of what your camera displays? I just think it would be easier for me to get the most useful position that way.

Cheers!

While we're on this

Anyone have a solution for direct streaming to an Android Tablet from the reversing camera.

Try wireless reverse camera, or a wireless ip cam?
Afaik options for using tablets as directly connected monitors are limited.
