I compared notes with Bruce :)
Yes, yes and yes, eg turbosmart kompact bov, either with the stock 2port or better still a 3port with supporting tune to better let the ECU manage boost.

No it is not, vacuum between air filter and the turbo inlet sucks the BOV piston open on the backside as pressure increases on the TMIC side ;)

It will still make manifold pressure but it starts bleeding open and once it closes again... you can end up with boost spikes as the turbo speed is no longer leaking air back into the intake :)

Ok:
is that an issue on the stock tune?

Is that otherwise capable of being resolved with a tune and or an upgraded bov?

Upgrade BOV for more consistent pressure.

Photography equivalent would be trying to take a time lapse photo of the sun rising... difficult to get right :)

There is a good explanation of boost control in general here http://blog.perrinperformance.com/boost ... explained/
A 3 part explanation with pictures and diagrams explained in easy to understand terminology...

I upgraded to a second hand GFB GT Hybrid BOV set to full plumb-back.
Amazed at the improvement in boost control.
Never goes over my max setting, and way better at hitting the intermediate boost levels on the SI drive dial too.
Definitely a must if you are running higher boost and dont want it going too high.
