It's surprisingly easy to run the microphone and antenna wire, main thing you'll need to remove is the dash piece under the steering wheel and the a pillar trim (which doesn't actually need to come all the way off). You'll be right

Well when you say it like that it doesn't sound hard at all. The antenna wire should be able to run under to carpet towards the back window, right?

Tip from experience, make sure the connectors fit first!

I had to solder in a Subaru connector in to my entire harness, and then went to plug it in and it was a wrong connector >.<

Had to solder the 15 or so cables directly in to the car, pain in the backside...

I suppose thats one con of a 12 year old car

Good luck with the install though Kody, I had fun doing mine (Mostly) and it was a good learning experience, the 2DIN unit I put in made a huge difference, and now I can watch Underbelly while driving.. Kidding but yeah it should go all smoothly, its pretty strait forward, especially if you can get the ISO harness, and then a ISO->Suby harness too, I got mine from autobarn,

Relevant thread to my interests. Just had a similar experience talking to a JB hifi guy who tried to tell me that its not possible to buy harnesses that make AV head units plug and play. Swore up and down that it required a 'complicated installation'. (in other words thinks I'm going to pay them 180 bucks to remove some fascia and plug a bloody HU in). Spoke to another salesman at a different JBhifi yesterday that didn't mention it being difficult, but tried to tell me the airbags are a risk of going off. I guess its their job to upsell but still...

I was looking at the exact same pioneer HU, and the equivalent sony one.

AV headunits require more wiring than what a simple wiring harness can provide.

All AV headunits require that a cable be connected to the handbrake to allow video playback. Some AV headunits go a step further and require a cable to be connected to the foot brake also, requiring a sequence of foot brake + handbrake applications to display certain menu's or allow video playback.

Hence why it isn't possible to buy harnesses that make AV head units plug and play.

I was planning on grounding the handbrake cable anyway, so I can (within reason) use the headunit for certain things while driving...
Whatever is left of the harness may require some soldering but having the majority of the harness plug into ISO connectors should make it much easier

Yeah ground the handbreak, everyone does that.

Not sure if the Gen 4 aerials have the double plug, but mine did and it lead to some issues, just unplug the aerial out of the stock HU and see if inside it has 2 prongs or one.

My Gen3 has the double one and the headunit had a single one, ended up trying to make something to make it work but that failed, so I am waiting on a double adaptor.

Most just need the handbrake cable, which as you said can easily be grounded (Just go strait in to the black wire on the harness)
