I have heard from a few people that this dyno reads a little low, but meh, it all comes down to how it drives. The bit I like is it appears to still be increasing in power all the way to red line, which is a big thing for me. So frustrating going in a turbo car that runs out of urge.
A Coyote tune may cost a little more (I say 'may' as I don't know what other tunes costs to be honest), but for your money you get Tony and Matt Spry sitting in your car tuning it based on actual data presented to them on the day.
I was expecting more of a gain but I'd rather have a safe tune with modest gains than damaging my high km stock engine. I thought it was pretty well priced actually, when I rang mercury motorsports (MRT) they said it would be at least 1500 for a basic tune. It drives way better now, power always there when I want it
I enjoyed meeting you yesterday, Daniel. That car of yours is one very tidy thing for it's age. I don't normally post in these threads, but will make an exception this time.
No excuses, that peak power gain was pretty small. We only did one baseline run because when we tried a second it had a massive knock, IAM plummeted and we shut it down. Bottom line, the baseline was not repeatable and the tune was not a safe starting point.
I tried another base map and it still knocked severely, so I came out and asked Daniel if it had diesel in the tank (not my exact words). Then created a safe map from which to start and built it up to just above what you see there. As I explained to Daniel, Matt and I always roll back to allow a margin for safety.
Quite a bit of time was spent on part throttle to ensure it was also optimised but knock free through there. Hopefully Daniel feels some drivability improvement. It's a good thing Matt and I enjoy tuning together, because yesterday (and last night) we spent more time in cars together than most married couples do on an interstate vacation. Did that sound weird?
Anyway, Daniel's car now has a safe tune. I won't get into which dyno is happier than others, but will confidently say after over 5 hours non stop on the rollers that there's not much more to be (safely) gotten out of that engine and turbo as it stands now. It did feel good on the road test though. Even better knowing it can be spanked and keep coming back for more.
See you in a week or two, Daniel.
