Todd's MY06 Liberty 3.0R Spec.B Wagon

Postby toddske » Fri Jul 12, 2013 11:18 pm

G'day fellow Club Liberty Owners,

I'm Todd and I've recently purchased the following silver liberty wagon..

Image

Bought off a middle aged family man, I'm the 3rd owner, full log books, lowered by previous owner, otherwise fully stock..

Recently purchased and installed the TCP Mufflers, great piece of kit, easy installation.. Sounds great too - videos to come...

Image

Prior to this car I had a WRX, MY99 Wagon, EJ207 Short Block, VF48 Turbo, TBE, Intake, Computer ETC.. Made 190kw atw, was pretty fun... Missing it already..

Image

The liberty, have done some research on this forum - I'm led to believe a 2.25" catback exhaust with a flash tune can make a world of difference - currently noticing a big flat spot in the power delivery around 2500-3500rpms..

Also noticed when the car is warm, on full lock, experiencing a quite vibarant clunking noise from the drivetrain, hoping someone can shed some light on this? Doesn't feel too good.

Image

Anyway the car overall is pretty good, this macintosh sound system is awesome, big sunroof is unreal, leather interior is a nice luxury to have, the 6 speed manual is fun to drive and the H6 motor loves to rev, sounds great too!

Hopefully meet some of you in the future!

Cheers

Todd

Welcome mate good to see some more H6 wagons around here.

The cluncking when warm will almost certainly be your centre diff binding.
Give garage88 a ring regarding this.

Enjoy.

The clunking on full lock is the centre diff and is a well known issue with the 3.0 6 speeds.

It's about a grand to fix I think

Garage 88 at eastern creek or NRG automotive in rydalmere are the places to go to get that sorted .

Edit ### Hoff beat me to it. Hahaha

Btw .... Very tidy!!!

Thanks for the quick response and warm welcome..

Hoff, you mention its the centre diff binding, care to elaborate on this?

What if I was to take my car on a spirited drive through some twisty roads? Would the car handle properly? And will this get worse over time?

A grand to fix, boostaddict, how do they fix the centre diff, replacement, reconditioned item?

It's on lowered springs
And it's a very tidy car in the flesh

Yeh I spoke to Mick and G88 about this ( looooonngg story for me ) but he said he can get the diff out of the box WITHOUT taking the box out and thus saves on labour and money. It's a brand new part from Japan. Don't go Subaru as they will rape you hard - refer Dawsey's reply.!!

It's a very well know issue with the 6 speeds on the pre face lift libs.

The car will still handle fine. But it will get worse over time. There is no immediate rush to get it done.

I had mine replaced at g88 as well it's about $1100.

Apparently there is a special goo inside the diff which changes for to allow the to go from open to locked under certain conditions. After a while the goo looses its special qualities and when warm it just likes to stay a locked diff which is what your feeling.

Thanks for the clarification Boostaddict and HoFF..

I was quite concerned about this as I've organised a crusie tomorrow up the old pac hwy and beyond to wollombi tavern for lunch.. Didn't want to have the car creating problems/breaking down on me as it approached a decent temperature whilst approaching some twisty roads..

I think i'll be contacting Garage 88 as it seems they know these cars quite well, slight concern is the lack of transportation from there..

Anyway hopefully solve this issue soon, along with a few more modifications to get the car upto my liking.. That being - front strut brace, rear sway bar, exhaust system and a flash tune.

Ain't nobody got time for sound deadening :D Standand McIntosh stereo is quite decent for me..

Sound deadening only equals more weight which means car goes slower.. fail.

I LOVE your thinking...!!! Michael at G88 will definitely help you lighten or in some cases empty your wallet.

So time has passed, and i'm bored...

Ordered some new plates, couldn't believe my luck on the rta website..

Booked in to get a catback system fitted tuesday - from the infamous lambros brothers hitech exhausts in darlinghurst... Following this I'll take it down to my mate at southern motor works albion park for a flash tune and hopefully a few extra killowatts :D

Experiencing a big clunk over certain bumps from the front suspension at the moment, not happy with that.. Has anyone here with the spec B libs had the bilsteins rebuilt? Thinking they might be due.. I know Heasmans Steering in Tempe can do it.
