Rome_STI wrote:So quite a few people have been asking me what the plans are with my car due to recent events, and there has been a lot of speculation about what happened. I thought it was time I updated this thread. About a month ago, in atrociously wet weather, a series of events and decisions caused me to lose control of my vehicle around a roundabout, slamming me into a curb, mounting it and hitting various man-made obstacles before coming to a stop. The damage caused by this accident was assessed as a statutory right off, but even if it could have been repaired the bill would have been enormous! The reason for waiting this long to update anyone about this is because I had originally intended to fight a negligent driving charge I had received due to this, but have decided not to go through with it.
TL;DR: STI #111/300 is no more![]()
In the days after the crash I was coming to terms with having lost something I had put so much time and effort into for the past 2 and a half years. Only you, my car loving fraternity, would understand just how emotionally upheaving it is to lose something material yet have it hit you so hard. It was only until a week after the event that I truly stopped and realised how lucky I was to have escaped completely uninjured, not even whiplash, which is a testament to the safety of these cars. I am also eternally grateful that there were no runners, mothers walking their children, or bike riders on the foothpath that day as it was a much used walking track. It has taken a while but I have finally come to terms with what happened and definitely use this as a learning experience.
It's been a long journey, and I have learnt a ton along the way. I have gone from someone who knew next to nothing about cars and wasn't really into them to someone who knows just a little bit about cars and cannot get enough of this side of the world. Special mention goes to various individuals who have assisted me along the way including:
- ITS-STI - who was the one who introduced me to these forums
- hks180 - who steered me away from Pulse racing the first week I was on the forums after I bought HIDs off him. He convinced me instead to go to:
- None other than PHAT GT himself. Michael May is truly one of the best guys I know in the auto world. He is a straight shooter, and although he always tries to passively upsell you, he really does know his stuff and was the only person to touch my car in terms of modding from start to finish (not including the lights). He will always have my business and I hope Garage 88 sticks around for the long run.
- dr20t - Honestly one of the best blokes I have ever met
- senator - Likewise, and assisted in expanding my Cusco catalogue![]()
- coyote - For always having the patience with me
- Everyone else I've made friends with and who have helped me along the way
So what next?
I may or may not have ordered a Subaru BRZ, which would also be the first manual car that I've owned!
