Interestingly that link refers to mute wires for connection of an integrated phone kit. I am about to get one and was wondering how I would connect it to the Mac head unit. On my Outback, the Parrot car kit just intercepts the 4 speakers allowing the music to mute and the phone voice to go to the speakers, but with the Mac there are 14!

Has anyone else got a phone kit that uses the factory speakers?

NO. I have a standalone "BlueAnt" bluetooth unit (rechargeable battery and internal speaker).
I had a handsfree with mute on my previous car that I built myself, just relays intercepting the front speaker wiring and killing the radio power.
