Pearl White GT in Brisbane.

Introduce yourself

Pearl White GT in Brisbane.

Postby Flat4GT » Fri Jun 21, 2013 8:40 am

Hi all, I'm Steve from Brisbane driving a MY10 Pearl White Liberty GT, my other car is a MY06 FXT and I'm on my 4th Subbie. Previous cars have been an assortment of European sports or British 4WD.
I've only done a couple of cosmetic mods like the Grill and covered some chrome. I will eventually black out all the chrome
Iv'e made a couple of handling mods like Sway bars and strut brace and because it a great car for long road trips I'll keep the rest of the suspension pretty stock.
I'm planning an MRT Stage 1 Mod (unless others think there are better mods) which will be an Exhaust and re-flash.
I work in Aviation Logistics' and when not flying around the Pacific I like to spend time on the bay on my Sea-Doo or in the bush on my MTB.

Hope to catch up at some stage.

Nice car mate, got any pics?

The general consensus around this forum is avoid MRT like the plague, but you'll really have to make your own judgment on the subject. I haven't dealt with them personally so can't comment.

Happy modding!

Welcome mate, sounds like you've started doing a few good mods already!

With MRT, the main reason people say avoid them is their price. It'd be a lot cheaper to arrange an exhaust and tune yourself rather than go through MRT.

Welcome aboard, Steve; always good to see GT owners in Brisbane. Be sure to get some pictures up when you can, and check out the QLD gatherings sub-forum. There is a cruise to Mt. Nebo on the 6th of July, and the more the merrier!

Thanks guys, interesting feedback about MRT. Option B was the Chip Torque EZY flash. That way I could potentially do the FXT and the LGT for the price of one, I need to do a bit more research though. What is the popular Chip Mod around here? I will look at the 6th to catch up but am driving back from Victoria on the 4th so the car might want a rest. :-)

Personally, if it were my money, I would be doing an exhaust with dump, an air filter and a tune from a respected Subaru mechanic or one of the guys who advertises on here (Kido/WestMinist). From there you can see whether you want to touch on some bigger mods. You're wasting a hell of a lot of money by going through companies like either MRT or EZYFlash. I haven't seen many people at all on here use chips (Less than 3).

Welcome to the forums, nice car. Pearl white has to be one of my top 2 Gen 5 colours.

Thanks for the feedback Kody, I've seen some pretty interesting numbers on torque and kw improvement by unlocking the factory setting in the ECU. Definitely want to get the blockage out of the exhaust and open it up a bit. The car is a true highway "Grand Tourer" so I'm not looking for 0-100 improvements just loads of torque for mid and top end performance.

Hi Steve, and welcome to the forums

Nice pics :)

Forum member "rrussh" (Henry) and I have had HKS dump pipes plus centre pipes installed on our cars, followed by a retune via Kido Tuning (Matt).

To me, it gave me the biggest bang for buck in improved performance (more mid range and more linear delivery overall...... sports is more driveable and fun, and sport# is ballistic). Henry also had the HKS premium mufflers also installed.... and I'll go down that route as well in the future (ie. HKS setup from turbo to back).

both had the HKS DPs ordered and installed via Garage88 (in Sydney), and Matt travels around the major cities frequently, so we booked in with him.

Pics of DP install

Several other GenV owners also have had other brand name DPs installed, followed by a retune with Kido - and the results (an smiles) are similar.

Just something to note though.... is that to install a DP on the GenV requires a circa 3 hour job (it requires dropping the subframe in order to install it)

(I cant comment on MRT as I havent used them for performance mods)

Thanks SYM, that is really good intel. It's great having feedback from those with real world experience. How is the HKS for noise, I want the Subbie burble but not an intrusive drone at highway speeds.

I havent done the HKS mufflers, so cant say...... give him a PM if you were after his opinion/views on noise

No change in noise from DP install though
