Newbie - my strong reccomendation to you is to come to a Sydney meet and sit in the passenger seat of a car that has mods you're thinking of.

That's one of the only ways to understand all this experientially

Lag is one overrated bit of crap - even Scott from insight said my car is too laggy

I think its fine - makes 1psi at 1900rpm in second or third gear, and 14psi by 2800 in third without proper tuning and this is with a rich mixture and minimal timing

If you have an auto, its easy to kick back a gear and get into boost

From all accounts, vf52 is a decent upgrade for moderate power without much lag at all - depends on how cheap you get one for as to whether its worth it

Come to the next Sydney meet so u can figure it out

+1 Mick.

Lag is also very subjective . I would love lag. Cause that means that when that bad boy turbo comes on..... Hold the fuck on!! That rush CAN NOT be beaten. I have what you would call the most out of the factory turbo ( will do in a week or so  ) and while its a very nice a responsive car to drive, when I jump in my Bro's 1969 Datsun 1600 with a full house sr20 turbo engine and a gt3076 and give it some WOT...... It just blows your mind!!! Then turns the tyres sideways in 3rd and you shit your pants..... But a positive experience none the less!!! :D

Do as Mick said. Jump in another forum members car and see what it's all about. Just don't go hating if you jump in Micks when it's all done and tuned and say...... I WANT THAT!!!
Not a Subaru...... Something MUCH better

NOPE..... That's shit too. Bus anyone??

You're talking about boost threshold there.

Just because you can load a turbo up and get it to make boost under 3,000rpm, does not mean it isn't laggy.

What are you comparing this to though?

Where else can you spend 2k to get circa 50kw atw?

Coyote - agreed I'm talking about threshold but the point is 5 or so psi from my 3076 is more than enough torque at 2500rpm to get me around town. And the beauty is when I want to put my foot down at the track it will hold power to redline

Just my 2 cents

Comparing to nothing just wondering if the upgrade to the vf52? Would be beneficial as worried it won't come on strong like the vf46 :/ just the vf46 runs out of steam

Spitting hairs when there's bigger questions... :D
How far do you want to go, power/budget-wise?
Simple answer: just start with your zorst mods on stock and go from there.
There's little point just swapping out a turbo alone.
But please upgrade your braking & suspension first.

Where exactly are you at with your mods anyway?

To be honest I really don't think upgrading to a vf52 requires doing full brake and suspension upgrades.

Better pads and some minor suspension tweaks would help though (assuming you don't already have such things).
